If this signifies that JJ is on his way out, this may be one of the best contracts ever signed in the NHL.

Is he really at the NHL level? From what I have seen, it's way too much. I had him at 900k, and every dollar counts with the flat cap.

Riikola has been stuck in the press box for most of the last two seasons. I am surprised that he resigned with the Penguins. I figured that he would want to go somewhere that would actually play him.

He puts up significantly above-average results as a 3rd pairing d man and this contracts buys one year of UFA. Worth it.

It's not. He's good when he actually gets the chance to play.

He's a Norris contender, if you're an analytics nerd.

All joking aside, Riikola is a solid bottom pairing dman and should be playing every day, especially with Johnson still on the roster.

Bottom line is that Juuso Riikola NEEDS to be playing in our lineup. Now that our former defensive coach has been fired he will actually get a chance. It's obvious that our OLD coach who was OLD and wanted OLD players to play did not want Jusso in the lineup even though he is a very good skater, a very good puck mover, pinches in hard and can get the puck down low and can hit like a ton of bricks. Get Jusso on the rink and let's play some fast, hard in your face Penguins hockey.

I know, that's why I'm surprised some people voted no. Probably didn't watch him play.

why would GMJR sign a player to over a mil to be an 8th D?? either JJ is on the way out (we pray) or GMJR will do something stupid like trade Dumo or Pettersson bc he's still delusional that JJ is a top-4 D...oh please no!!!

He was one of the 5 best d men on the team last year. If he sucks, he can be buried in the AHL for only a 75k cap hit.

Just doesn't mesh with the coach for whatever reason. He's probably the 5th best defenseman on the Pens last year, just never was given the chance to play. Was pretty strong when he did play.

The AAV and term are pretty much par for the course for a #6 or #7 Defenseman, right?

oh agree for sure...I'm not bashing it...just saying it looks like things are lining up for a JJ trade.

I do like his cough drops their the best ones on the market he needs a sponsorship with them badly since he's obviously being under paid with this new contract.
