Are the Habs really going to spend 15 million on their goaltenders

Description
I created this really just to ask the question to Montreal fans. I haven’t heard your perspective on the Allen trade and what Montreal is thinking. Together Price and Allen make just under $15 million, while they would form one of the best 1-2 tandems in the league they would probably be the most expensive. Are they really moving forward with those two, or is there another trade they are waiting to make?

If you trade Domi you basically have 11.5 in cap space, (and that is after Jake Allen's 4 mi)

Where else where you gonna spend it?

No offense but MTL is not exactly know for BIG free-agent signings

He’s on a 1 year deal. He’ll get less after. Plus the money was just going to stay in molson pocket so why not

Great move IMO. Given Allen can put up similar numbers on the Habs, Price can play less games throughout the year. In theory, he should be well rested, and be dominant in the playoffs like this year.

We’ve been searching for a decent backup G for years. Totally worth it.

We still have 14 mil to spend (with only Domi and Mete as notable RFA’s).

Idk for one year since they have the space to do it.
Cayden Primeau will take the spot after 1 season in the AHL.
This year we had something like 6 or 8 millions of free space and did not use it.
I would have taken Allen anytime considering our backup sucked and Price was overused.

So the short answer is yes, they are running with those two for at least this year. It’s unorthodox, but it does make sense if strong back up goaltending is a significant concern.

Hey why not it works

What I don’t understand is why is Brett Burns contract bad when it ends at 38 and Webber’s ends at 41! Burns plays 77-82 games a year Webber hasn’t come close to that in ..... 4 years

Burns will be 40+ when his contract is up.
I would argue that Burns’ contract Is all relative, and only gets criticized because you have 2 other high paid Dmen who are also under contract until 40, or close to it. Karlsson, Vlasic, and Burns make over $36 mil. (Almost 50% of the cap)

Always liked burns. Big contract, but from afar doesn’t seem outrageous given his importance to the team.

If you they can afford it, I say absolutely. Allen proved last year he's a capable backup and could probably take over for Price if he gets hurt. Price is bordering on washed, but if you can squeeze another solid year out of him next year, goaltending can be a real strength for the Habs.
