The hell they do. They get to dump the Johnson contract basically for free while getting real value back.

That is a Toronto trade for Murray that actually makes sense. I see they are your number 2 team so that explains why.

Leafs save money on 3c bring in a 1a. Holl is replaceable.

Pens get some more speed a serviceable bottom four rhd on a decent contract.

the problem is 99% of Pens fans would rather have McCann than Kerfoot and Murray for a 4th and Holl is pretty awful value

I'm sure Toronto loves it but that's just bad for Pittsburgh

The only one I feel shaky about is Minnesota. I think the Pens could get a 2nd instead of a 4th from Toronto but I really didn’t feel like getting crucified by people.

I mean, statistically, Donato was one of the most under-used players in the league. His underlying stats said that he should have been used for a scoring role and that he could have excelled there.

I like Björkqvist, but is he a blue-chip prospect? Absolutely not. Also, 2nd round pick for a (possibly) contending team is not that great. Johnson, on the other hand, is a total disaster with a horrible contract.

I understand that the Pens don't want to do this if Johnson gets taken out but the Wild won't do it if it is like that.

The big thing missing in all of this is the fact that Minnesota has been willing to take Johnson on twice already. While I agree it won’t be for Donato I still think there’s possibility for it to happen.

Could certainly be a bit more going the pens way. I don’t see Murray having incredibly high value. He is demanding 8m (which he will never get) and coming off of a down season. Certainly worth more than Holl and a 4th. 99% of Pittsburgh fans probably don’t watch kerfoot enough to see what he brings.

No we haven't. There's no chance we take Johnson unless you're paying us to do so.

MIN 3rd for Johnson+Poulin might get it done.

The pens will get a 1st for Matt Murray.

When Wild was willing to take him, there was a different GM in charge. And I sure hope we won't get him.

I think so too but do you still get one back if you get roster players back too?

I think they could. A 1st and a legit depth player or a 2nd and a good prospect. I think after these playoffs a lot of teams see how important a legit number 1 goalie is. Look at colorado. If they had Murray on their roster they are still in the playoffs.

NSH declines. The only way they're taking on Hornqvist's contract is if PIT takes an equally bad or worse one in return.

What you're sending with Johnson might (probably not) get him moved, but not for anything more than a 7th. And even then, I doubt there's enough incentive for any other team to do it. Especially Minnesota, who doesn't have a spot for him & isn't gonna help you improve. You clear cap & get better from this move, Minnesota is not interested in that

Pens need an upgrade at 3C, I don't see Kerfoot as that primarily because he's just as bad at face-offs as McCann, for every 200 they took last year Kerfoot won exactly one more draw

you're also knocking Pens fans pretty unfairly here, Toronto is looking like the second team in two years that wants to cut ties with him

we also are just going to have to disagree on Murray's value, it's clearly higher than what's offered there

yeah this is also bad, JJ is cheap to buyout or bury (which the Pens more than likely will just do one of)

the value to cut ties with him isn't a 1st, it's probably like a 2nd

this argument is also 100% not worth it because they aren't moving him anyway

Murray to me is interesting. Yes he had a bad season. But he is young and has promise. If Dubas could get him for that package than sign him for a freddie deal I would be happy. We would have a young goalie and a cheaper 3c who yes is injury prone but has potential

I actually wouldnt mind kerfoot as the 3c. Kerfoot yes sucked at faceoffs this year but I see him rebounding next season. Kerfoot is also very good defensively both 5 vs 5 and on the PK. With his contract being front heavy I could see this working out money wise

I'm just assuming if they're moving McCann it would have to be for more of a sure thing at 3C or RD moving forward, and I don't think Kerfoot is that. It's replacing a question mark with another question mark

The money issue in Pittsburgh rumor has been consistently debunked

Guerin wanted to do Jarry and Johnson for Zucker and Stalock just a few months ago.
