If I am Arizona, I probably try and trade Kuemper straight up for a top prospect like Newhook or Byram (plus say Francouz as a dump). Yes, it is a big price, but if Sakic thinks that Kuemper is the piece that gets them over the top, he'll pay it.

That being said, I can't see Colorado training Francouz. They *just* gave him a contract extension. It would be in very bad form.

A top prospect for a goalie just isn’t going to happen, for a few reasons. 1) The goalie market this offseason is too good, both in free agency and by trade. 2) Kuemper has been really good with Arizona, but he was a career backup goalie before 2018. There’s definitely som uncertainty that his high level of play would continue with a new team. 3) Goalies just don’t carry the same value as position players. The most recent trade for a starting goalie that was not a rental is the Grubauer trade to Colorado, which cost the Avalanche a 2nd round pick and the Brooks Orpik buyout. Grubauer’s numbers as a backup in Washington were similar to Kuemper’s numbers the last two years. Granted, Grubauer was not a starter but he was also four years younger than Kuemper is now.
AJ Haefele from DNVR speculated that the most Colorado would give up for Kuemper is a first round pick, one of their current goalies, and maybe a C-prospect like Helleson or Ranta.

To your point about Francouz going into a new contract - Kuemper is also going into a new contact that he signed last October. It’s not a great look for either team, but if they feel it’s the right deal the contract situation shouldn’t stop the trade.
