Description
Lots of speculation about who wants out of Montreal. All of this is humorous to be honest. I have heard names like Tatar, Petry wanting out?? The only player that has said anything somewhat negative was Danault. He was not happy playing behind the two kids. Domi has not asked for a trade, but he should, and most likely will be. I personally think he has played his last game in a Hab's jersey. As for Danault, if MB makes him available there will be multiple suiters and the asking price will be significant.

Trade 1: Winnipeg Jets. Jets need a second line center. They also need to rebuild their D. Danault is a top 30 center and plays a great 200 foot game. Fills the Jets second line center perfectly. The cost of getting this player is a hot and cold winger in Ehlers. I would like to have had Laine but in all honesty I don't see the Jets moving him. If they did the asking price would be too much. A 2020 2nd (STL) balances out this trade IMO. Mete is a puck moving defensemen that can play top 4 minutes. With the arrival of Romanov, Mete is expendable. Vesalainen value has dropped over the last couple years. His development has come slower than expected. A 2021 2nd (MTL) balances this trade in regards to ceiling level of the players involved.

Trade 2: Anaheim Ducks, Ducks get a player that can play center or wing in their top six in Domi. They also get a defenseman that can play in there top four in Kulak plus a 1st round pick in this years draft and a back up goalie if Miller retires in Lindgren. Montreal gets a player that plays a position of need (RH) in Rakell and they get a top pairing LD that they need in Lindholm.

Youth down the middle, Suzuki and KK will be fine filling the top two spots and with Poehling and Evans playing in the bottom six center positions, they are well insulated with strong two way wingers. Signing Thompson and Weal will provide veteran depth at the center position.

The following extensions are signed during the 2020- 2021 season. The Canadiens will have nearly 28 million to fill 10 roster positions for the 2021-2022 season.
Gallagher 5 year @ 6.0 Million per
Armia 3 year @ 3.5 Million per
Lehkonen 4 year @ 2.9 Million per
Kotkaniemi 3 year @ 3.5 Million per
Poehling 3 year @ 1.75 Million per
Petry 4 year @ 6.0 Million per
Total = 23.65 Million

Tatar will either finish the season and walk as a UFA or if Vesalainen is ready to take his spot at the TDL, Tatar would get moved then.

Leaving 4 Million to fill out the final 4 roster spots in the 2021-2022 season
Vesalainen takes Tatar's spot cap hit $894167.00
Primeau takes Allen's spot cap hit $880833.00
Depth forward to fill Thompson's spot $1000000.00
Depth forward to fill Weal's spot $1000000.00

Not the kind of return Anaheim would want. Also Domi = Rakell is not gonna work.

What kind of return do you think they would want for Lindholm. Also are you saying that Rakell is better player than Domi? Domi is a career 0.67 point per game player and Rakell is a 0.63 point per game player. They seem pretty equal to me, Domi is younger. Domi is a former 12th overall pick and Rakell was a former 30th overall.

I’m not huge on Kulak. Maybe that’s the only thing that bugs me

I think Domi for Rakell is pretty close to fair value, maybe picks or expendable prospects could get thrown in. Lindholm should fetch more than a first and Kulak though. I'd say either add a mid-tier prospect (Juulsen or Fleury) or take out kulak and give up one of your better D prospects (assuming Romanov is untouchable so maybe one of Norlinder or Harris?). Went off the prospect rankings Pronman just put out so if the prospect tiers are way off blame him, I'm not super familiar with your system.

I can understand a team in a re-build would want more picks or prospects vs a roster player like Kulak. I would be fine with Harris.
