They are not going to move Georgi as an asset in a Smith dump. The structure of Smith's contract should bring back an asset in a stand alone deal (3rd-5th??)...However- I wouldn't be surprised if NYR also look to keep Smith- and give him steady minutes as 2 or 3 LD...then move him at TDL to a team looking for cheap D depth and a physical presence. And under Martin's D system- can see Smith gaining some value as he works his butt off hoping for another contract.

The guy went from being a .8 PPG player on a terrible team to a .45 PPG player in Nashville. Very similar things have happened to Turris and Duchene, Fiala did the opposite when he left there. Everything points to nashville being the issue, not the player.

If you put him in a position to succeed with NY's winger corps, he'll put up absurd numbers and people will call the contract a steal

Yes, but u see thats a giant risk and if it doesn't work he's signed for 6 years, Rangers are trying to get rid of bad contracts not bring a new one on to replace the old ones
