No way in hell the Caps take on Bjugstad and retain on Hagelin. If the Caps are trading Hags it's probably because they need the cap space, and this does the opposite and doesn't even fill a need for them.

Someone did this exact thing a few days ago in a Caps ACGM and received praise for it.

I’m cool with removing the third but I don’t see how the oilers don’t want a solid top 9 C/W when they’re thin at bottom 6 center to begin with.

Did Murray and McCann for this package a few days ago and wanted to see what would happen with just Murray alone. Gonna wait to see what other Leafs people think.

Extremely unlikely oilers let go of jp that easily after spending a year working on bringing back.

Are they even remotely close to bringing him back though? I agree it would be huge to have him back but is it even realistic at this point?

Hagelin ($1.25M ret) for Bjugstad, 6th
Capitals do not need Bjugstad, nor have the cap space for this. They decline

McCann for Puljujarvi, 3rd.
Make it a 2nd. Puljujarvi has no NHL value, no matter how hard Oiler fans try to say otherwise.

The guy who made that ACGM isn't a Caps fan, and the only comment on the post that mentioned the Pens trade said "The Capitals will never retain money on Hagelin" in the course of pointing out a bunch of things that were wrong with the post.

By praise do you mean "The Capitals will never retain money on Hagelin." because that is the only comment made directed towards a Bjugstad for Hagelin (w$1.25M ret) taht I saw (https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/361486)

Sounds very encouraging depending on what sources listen to. Guys like Friedman and such like to suggest a trade is still likely because creating speculation is their job but if listen to Holland he’s been consistent from the start saying his priority is to bring back. My guess is jp is waiting to find out when the season starts before putting his name on a deal.

That’s big if they can pull him back in especially with how dangerous they were when Yamamoto began to establish himself.

Emphasis on the AND, though? While the Caps don't need Bjugstad, with the emergence of Dowd and Boyd as solid penalty killers, they can afford to trade Hagelin.

Hagelin for Bjugstad could add a center to the Caps' 2nd power play unit who can compliment Wilson's size and strength in front of the net, and if there's no salary retention, then the trade opens up some cap space for 2021-22.

Or if Bjugstad doesn't heal as expected from his recent spinal surgery, he could spend the year on LTIR and give Washington more cap space for this year.

I definitely think Hagelin could be traded, it’s the retention that’s ridiculous. As for Bjugstad, I wouldn’t mind him as a reclamation project if he cost, say, 2M, but at 4.1M he’s just not a good use of the team’s limited cap space.
