The jets would ask for 1 of Nuge, Bear, or Bouchard in a Laine deal

You could do a lot better than Gostisbehere for his cap hit. He's a 3rd pairing defenseman / PP specialist, something Edmonton has no need for.

Is there some reason Khaira is on LTIR?

Not to mention, a 1st round pick.

Edmonton doesn't have the available pieces to land Laine.

I would rather keep Laine for three years and see him walk as a UFA then trade him for that.

Yes

I don't see it happening just due to positional needs (Nuge) and cap hit (Bear, Bouchard). I'm not a Laine fan at all though, he's a replacement level player except when he stands in his spot on the PP.

Yea that is true, it’s frustrating to watch but a team would make a big overpay for him just because of his name value

I think the Oil are stuck with Kris Russel. Guy has a NMC so you can't bury him, and he's got a 15 team trade list where I can virtually guarantee you Ottawa isn't on that list. I don't know what 15 teams he'd name that would have the cap space or any desire to take him on. I think Edmonton is just going to have to eat it for one more year.

edit: I guess you could buy him out. You'd clear the roster spot, save $1 million AAV for next year and only cost you $500k for 2021-2022...

Yes, and 138 goals in 305 games at the age of 22 is nothing to sneeze at.

You're really undervaluing Laine man, he's way more then just a guy who hammers pucks in on the powerplay

Most of the problem lies with Maurice in my opinion. Refuses to let players play to there strengths. I will say he definitely put in A LOT more effort in his all around game, but sometimes it appears to be fundamentally broken. Again I feel it would most likely be different if we had a competent coach. Gallant is still sitting there and it’s making me mad that we are passing up on him for the coach with the most losses of all time
