If Letang Rumours Are True

Created by: AnalyticsGeek

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 8, 2020

Description
I for one, don't believe Letang is getting traded. The media doesn't seem to like him cuz he is short with them and have occasionally tried running him out of town, but he's always stayed. I am just making an armchair team IF the Penguins are indeed shopping him. Letang is still an elite number 1 defenceman and will be for the next few seasons, so his value needs to be very high.

1- Erm, what is this sorcery with over 12.5M sitting on LTIR? Are you planning to Tonya Harding their knees or something?

In other words, kiss Petro and Marner goodbye.

2- If Andersson is your 13th forward, you're not winning ****.

Extremely unrealistic team but how do you guys think they look on paper? Are they good enough to win the cup?

the rumor was Letang for Nylander and honestly I cant see it happening. Letang is good but his defense outside the offensive zone isnt that great. Nylander is a young 30 goalscorer whose only going to get better.

So sick of seeing Marner being constantly undervalued, mostly by you to be honest. Come on, he'd get a much better return

Mccann had 35 points last year while constantly being shifted throughout the lineup and you say he's "garbage" I'd like to know why that is

Not trolling anderssons not a bust and nobody is paying a 2nd and a prospect even if the prospect has an issue with the organization. You’re saying he’s a bust because he has issues with the organization maybe you would like to go look at his stats so far this season in SHL

yeah and in the AHL he had 5 points in 13 games. Anderssons value is shot. the only trade that would make somewhat sense would be Pulj for him. McCann on his own is worth more than a 2nd given how draft pick values have tanked this past season. And pens probably wont even move him for a pick. It will be for another NHL player

You said it yourself he was up and down the line up how many games did he play with top players in your top 6? Realistically he’s a bottom 6 guy which are easy to find nobody is paying the price that this guy is asking for a bottom six player. And the 35 points so are you telling me that strome is worth at least 2 1st?

What do you mean draft picks values have tanked this is one of the deepest drafts in years just because you gm is dumb and overpayed for Kapanen doesn’t mean other teams are going to overpay

I disagree with that philosophy. Assuming they both kill penalties, play PP1, and play top line/top pair, I'm taking the same-aged defenseman over the winger every time. Heiskanen over Svechnikov. Ekblad over Nylander. I think you'd have to be talking about a no.1 center to get on the same playing field as a no. 1 d-man.

Quoting: mhockey91
yup, thank you AK

Why are defence man so much more valuable than forwards pretell? There is no reason why.

-Skeji for a first
-coleman for Foote and a First
-Goodrow for a first
-dump marleau for a first
-kase for a first
-kappanen for 15OA
-etc...

if those guys are all getting a first, McCann at minimum is getting back a 2nd+. Now, it probably wont be the rangers since they are loaded on left shot forwards, but you cant even sit here and tell me that isnt McCann's value because that is the going rate for top 9 forwards.

because Letang throughout his career eats 25-26+ minutes a night at an elite level. Marner is a good winger sure, but he will never be considered among the best (ie hart) like Letang has been for the Norris

Sure he will. He's already got a 94 point season at 22.

1) Skjei for the later first to a cup contender picks don’t matter to a team with a legitimate chance at winning the cup
2) Coleman to Tampa (a cap crunch team) has a super team friendly contract and once again Tampa is a contender
3) Marleau cap dump, Toronto (cap crunch team) a better team wouldn’t say contender but terrible cap management forced their hand
4) kase signed for an extra year trade to once again a contender
5) kapanen pens should fire their GM horrible trade

In my honest opinion McCann doesn’t get you a 2nd maybe a 3rd and 4th but that’s the most I would pay for a bottom 6 forward

but once again, all these trades lowered the market value of a first round pick, whether you think its justified or not. And FYI there were MULTIPLE teams offering first round picks for Kap. That was the established price of Kapanen. And he will be a great fit in a top 6 role. A young player with speed, can PK, and brings some fiest. Was it an overpay? Yes of course, but other teams were also offering similar proposals.

Jared McCann is netting a much better return than a 3rd/4th when other teams paid much more for similar players. That is just the facts. McCann is not a "bottom 6 forward". He is a good middle 6 guy. There is absolutely no reason he gets anything less than a 2nd.

On a legitimate contender McCann isnt above 3rd or 4th line being a bottom six guy

considering dallas is in the WCF and he'd be a top 6 forward on that team, yeah id say he is definitely a middle 6 forward.

He would most definitely not be in the top 6 of Dallas Benn Seguin radulov Pavelski hintz gurianov top six

okay, lets settle down with the brash comments. do i think leafs make this trade? No, they dont due to age difference, but for the immediate future does this improve the Leafs team. Yes it does. It wont happen because Letang is nearly 10 years older than Marner, but dont act like this is another trade where a team is giving up spare parts for Marner because that is just not true. if Letang and Marner were the same age, Pens would have no interest in this trade anyways

But they aren't the same age. And this is from the guy who on a regular basis gives Marner away for scraps to feed some perverse pleasure of getting lit up by everyone.
