Both deals are bad for the Jets and so is the Granlund signing.

I think this is the worst Ehlers trade yet, that Laine trade sucks as well.

If Petry extend it’s pretty fair ( MTL would have to add ) but that’s not happening

While the Canadiens would be interested in Ehlers, they have nobody to replace Petry on the second pairing. Also, I doubt that the Jets would trade a guy like Ehlers for a one-year rental in Petry, a prospect who may or may not be NHL-ready and a mid-round pick. This is a trade where both teams say no.
