Detroit passes. We’re very high on Hronek and OEL doesn’t do anything for us at the moment

Zetterberg has been on LTIR, so he has all but retired. Also Wings not trading young cost controlled RHD for a guy making alot of money for 7 more years until he is in his late 30s.

I realize that you’re high on Hronek and I tried to make it an overpay. Read the trade description, that’s how I think OEL helps the wings

It's still a pass, we aren't trading hronek, if you replace hronek with cholowksi you got a deal

I love OEL’s game but it doesn’t make sense to trade our young top pairing guy for a 29 year old defensemen. If we were two years further into our rebuild and some lottery luck I’d be down.

Right now OEL is better than Hronek and if Detroit was a playoff team or contender I could see them accepting a trade like this. But Detroit isn't a playoff team and OEL is 29 with a cap hit of $8.25M for the next 7 seasons. Hronek is 22 and is cost controlled for the next 5 seasons. Trading for OEL fills a need for Detroit but it also creates a need on the other side of their defense. In a situation like this you have to go with the younger less expensive player. You also have Detroit giving up the #32OA and the first pick of the 3rd round. I'm not saying OEL isn't worth that much or more but Detroit doesn't have enough pieces in place to trade 3 assets for 1.

uhhh that Carolina trade does not provide top 6 help, Hurricanes don't need a center and hinnistroza is not the top 6 winger they're looking for

Hinostroza is not a top six winger, and I never meant him to be
Guys like Stepan often need guys like Svech and Aho to lift their game to the next level, even if they’re aging. With defence solved, and Askarov probably getting drafted, I, as the Canes, would take a chance on Stepan

he's a center tho so I don't think it makes sense for Carolina and Waddell said he is trying to change the D as little as possible

EXACTLY. The D is fine. Great, even. It’s the forwards that, given a little boost, can make it a bit farther in the playoffs

Fleury is part of that defense and Carolina doesn't need a center so it would have to be a winger not stepan

A. That trade wasn’t really the focus of the AGM, it was mostly to make room for Söderström
B. Sure, a fourth or fifth would work

I know it wasn't. Just offering feedback from an Avs perspective though since you included us in a trade.
