Description
After finishing the season with the most points, Boston was eliminated by Tampa and now a critical offseason awaits them. Marchand and Krejci recognize on interviews that the window is closing. Most of the core (Krejci, Marchand, Bergeron, Rask, Chara) are 33 and over and a decline is coming for these guys. Krug is hitting free agency and it's not sure he's coming back, Chara is 43 and even though he commited to play well he's still 43.
Krug wants to be paid and he's got the right too. He took many short cheap deal and now that he's on his prime he wants the jackpot and there's nothing wrong about that. In order to try to keep the group together for maybe one last run I think Krug get offered a 50M for 7years (av of 7.142M). Chara gets a 1y 1.5M. DeBrusk is becoming a rfa and Something around 5-5.5M is reasonable for him. I also resign Grzelcyk to a 4y 9M (av 2.250M). He's a good top 6 defenseman and I think around 2/2.5M is reasonable. That leaves the team with only 103k of capspace. They could try to shop around Moore, but for a 6-7th defenseman Boston will have to give Something up, wither a high draft pick or a good prospect and I Don't think that's going to happen. With Chara and Krug future uncertain I think they keep him around plus next offseason Krejci and Rask contract will finish and both won't command the same contract so they can afford to keep him if they Don't make a drastic move. Also, next season Studnicka makes his debut and I think he's be a good fit in Boston.
Basically the task for Boston is to try to keep everyone up for at least one year

You gotta trade Grzelcyk so you dont lose him in the expansion draft if you re-sign Krug

For Grzelcyk, that's not enough money for that term and he is a top4 D. Unless he takes a discount, he can make $3.5M+. DeBrusk, it depends if he takes a bridge deal or an LT deal. If he feels like he could be a $6M+ player in the future, he won't sign that contract.

Not the ideal contract for Krug. Sawp Ritchie and Bjork in the lineup and thanks for no trades; better than what most people do.

Sweeney cant give debrusk a long term deal with his scoring inconsistencies. its a bridge for him, i see no other scenario but that one. hasnt had more than 45 points in his career yet... gotta see what he truly is.

"Krug wants to be paid and he's got the right too. He took many short cheap deal and now that he's on his prime he wants the jackpot and there's nothing wrong about that."
Krug's ELC was 3 years 5.1m (1.7m AAV) he played a combined 82 games in 3 years. primarily 2013 where he played 79 of those. 1 good year didnt warrant a massive new deal, they gave him a 1 year prove it. He had a similar year, 39 points in 78 games. Team was in a cap crunch he took a 1 year slightly below market deal as an rfa. 1 year 3.4m at 23 years old with 2 professional seasons under his belt is a solid deal... then he gets a 4 year 5.25m deal after a 44 point year in which his age 27 year he has a full ntc and in the last year of his deal he has an 8 team no trade list. he then goes on to have 4 50+ point seasons. I dont see anywhere where hes taken cheap deals, or shorter deals that made his contract not reflect his performance. They overpaid him to get him as a udfa, they gave him a 1 year prove it (no arb rights...), they kind of overpaid on his next 1 year deal(arbitration). then they gave him what turns out to be market value over 4 years... so outside of maybe that 1st prove it deal, i think theyve paid krug what he was worth at the time of the signings. He is not worth more than 5.5m long term. And we saw why during the tampa bay series.

DeBrusk and Krug won’t get that much in Boston. At least JD won’t on his bridge deal. Ritchie won’t ever be on the 3rd line again for the Bruins.

By all reports Krug wants closer to $8,000,000 per not $7,000,000 per. He's not signing that cheaply anywhere.
