Taking on Neal is a net negative for Buffalo. Old, overpaid, and signed too long. That alone should mean keeping our 1st.

I would hope that DET, who is rebuilding, would not give up an asset for a 30 yr old player who only has one year left.

If he signs an extension immediately then he’s still worth a first. Without it he’s not.

Holy cow, is Spurgeon actually so underrated somebody thought that would be his worth?

Spurgeon first of all has a NMC in a contract he just signed so he is probably not going anywhere. Not only that but he is ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSEMEN IN THE LEAGUE! It is outrageous to offer anything but a first-round pick, a veteran to patch his spot in the lineup, and a blue-chip prospect.

I’m sorry I’m so out of breathe typing this. I was laughing so hard at what you wanted to trade for spurgeon. It’s so absurd I’m still laughing. You have nothing to get spurgeon away from the wild except eichel and dahlin who aren’t going anywhere so you don’t have anything to get spurgeon. Sorry still grinning like an a$$hole at the audacity in that trade package

I'm admiring how you're giving up Ristolainen and the 8th overall pick for RNH and James Neal, and then turning around and offering...that...for Spurgeon.

I'd be thrilled to get this as a MN fan. Getting out of Spurgeon's albatross of a contract for picks and no cap coming back, yes please.

Thank you. He is a great player but for almost 8 mil a year for a guy whos career high is 43 points? Come on. I dont think teams would give up a first for his contract alone

8 mil a year for a career high of 43 points. He is great but i dont think teams would give up a first for him and or a skilled offensive player for that contract alone

Really? very surprising to me. I though Minnesota views him as untouchable

His new contract is awful. $7.6m x 7 for a 31 yo, complementary d-man, coming off of a career year, can't stay healthy for a full season, and it doesn't make a difference if he's on the ice or not for MN's record.

Keeping all 3 of Brodin, Dumba, and Spurgeon is unlikely (money, expansion draft, etc.), and I'd rather have Brodin and Dumba over Spurgeon.

It sure is a great thing that defensemen are judged on more than just points.

I never said that. All i am saying is that you do not pay almost 8 mil for d man unless he can put points up and is good defensively. His point production does not match his contract.
