A Leafs Take by A Canuck

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2020
Published: Sep. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Imo this team needs to make some big changes this offseason. They would be much harder to play against than years past in this scenario. Imo depth and toughness have been this teams weakness for years now. With these trades and signings it takes care of both of these areas.

Some of these signings take advantage of guys coming off some down years. These are the types of players this team needs to sign, guys they can get more from if they bounce back. Theres so little money to go around and making some moves like this may improve their chances of winning a playoff series.

Dumba isnt what we need pass

If that Parayko deal actually happened Dubas would be GM of the year

If freddie goes its like the Kapenan trade for a good prospect and a high pick no goalie coming back

We can do better in a dermott trade

Be prepared for major heck for that Payanko trade. It’s not horrible. But it’s not enough. Otherwise I’d say it’s good. More for Dermott.

Nylander is more valuable right now than Dumba.

Parakyo is more valuable to the Blues than the package from the Leafs.

Carolina trade is fine, but Toronto's goaltending would be noticeably worse.

Dermott is worth more than a throwaway pick. You'd expect them to give up more for what would be their best defenseman.

Legit question... why are Leafs fans desperately clinging to a package made up by someone we know has no sources? It's been over a week now and no insider has touched the Parayko to Toronto "rumour".

On the Dermott subject, I always see Leafs AGMs signing him for 3rd round pick compensation money in the 2M range. One person mentioned he is their best defenseman? That seems like a stretch to me, that Det pick is also basically a late 2nd being the first pick of the 3rd round.

What do you think the Leafs need to add to that trade to make it work? This trade also frees up the rest of the money required for the Blues to sign Pietro.

There is a ****load of Leaf fans on this site. The "rumour" has only lead to a slight uptick to the Parayko trade proposals. Blues cap/Pietro situation is the bigger reason for them.

It's been years of Parayko, Pesce, Manson, etc. trade proposals by Leaf fans. It won't end until Leafs acquire a legit Top 4 dman.

Its a stretch for sure, he's their 3rd best (Rielly and Muzzin are better). But he's quite good. He just hasn't gotten a good chance to prove himself for a long term deal. So it makes sense to sign him to a bridge deal (for both sides).

I said he would be Detroit's best defenseman.

Slight uptick? The Blues cap is the reason for it?

Parayko to the Leafs has been happening for months. That Blundell "rumour" stoked the flames a bit, but Parayko has been Leafs fans favourite shiny toy all summer.

Blues have some $$ issues to take care of this summer if they want to re-sign Pietro - that's all 90% of fans need to figure one of Parayko or Pietro is gone.

1- Dude. Parayko to the Leafs was a tiny trickle seen maybe once a week before the Blundell fiction, mainly because everyone realized it was ludicrous. Since his clickbait article, it has been a tsunami, seen literally dozens of times everyday for about a week, and then several times a day for the days since that week. That is not a slight uptick.

2- If that's all it takes to get that idea, 90% of fans are brain dead. Because why on Earth would it be such an either/or? We have other players to deal, and the Allen trade nearly did half the cap-cutting job with more than plenty of time left to complete the job.

Too many Leafs fans are desperately drunk on wishful thinking (not suggesting you're one of them btw), both before and after the nonsense dropped, about this Parayko thing and many others.

1. Fair - I'm probably not the best judge seeing I've been avoiding most Leaf ACGMs that involve STL as the Parayko trade was boring me in the spring.

2. The media is just as bad in TOR (and I live 4 hrs away from the city). They know mentioning Pietro will get clicks so he's constantly mentioned or written about, which stirs fans into a bit of a frenzy. Now Parayko is being mentioned in some legit articles - him being high on the Leafs list (they are not saying it's likely, just that he's almost perfect fit) so I doubt the Parayko wishful thinking ends until Tor acquires a decent Top 4 option.
Most fans seem to follow the pack mentality which also explains the irrational Nylander hatred by a large group of fans - it started with Don Cherry saying he would have taken Nick Ritchie in the draft instead of him, and continued with the Burkes, Hrudeys, etc. calling out every mistake he makes. 50% of Leaf fans have no idea Nylander lead (or was 2nd) in net front goals this season, because he only gets flak in the media - rarely praise.

As far as wishful thinking - I saw a Andersen to Car for Pesce and 13th OV proposal yesterday. There is a very large % of Leaf fans that know nothing about other teams (or hockey in general).

1- Smart man.

2- Yeah, I haven't been to Ontario in years, but I know the media there fans this crap.

3- Yep. It's like English soccer (football to them) fans. You'd think they'd know so much more than they do, but they only really know English soccer.

If it’s correct in your head it would be correct in your reality..... Hronek was the only quality defender we had last year and our record reflects that. One defensemen can only carry a team that has one line so far.
