If we're dropping 6mil on a goalie it better be Lehner, Markstrom, or Holtby

Ryan's worth a 3rd, and we have to replace him somehow that money doesn't just disappear. We're interested in good goalies, and as much as Hank was fantastic for most of the last decade plus, he's washed now, he's the 3rd best goalie on a non-playoff team. We can keep Talbot for half the price to be much better

Understandable but wouldn't he be playing 4C behind Monahan, Backlund, Bennett? Seems like a poor allocation of salary...

They might trade Ryan, but I think in that case they'd be looking more for a pick than for a similar salary.

I guess my point is do you want to invest 3 mil for one year in a proven playoff performing (granted declining) goaltender who wouldn't be your starter but rather a 1B for Rittich or drop mega money/term on a UFA goalie like Holtby, Crawford, Markstorm (I think Lehner will stay with VGK)? Frankly despite a poor season from Hank, he had a better year then Holtby...

It's 6mil, not 3mil, don't get that twisted, we still have to replace Ryan so it's a 6mil investment in a goalie. We can trade Ryan to anyone for a 3rd, he's a good player. I would much rather bet on Holtby at 31 bouncing back and going on a run than Lundqvist at 38. I probably wouldn't give Holtby 6 but if I had to I would rather give him 6 than Hank. He's not exactly playoff proven in recent memory, he's 0-2 in the last 3 years. To answer your question, yes I would much rather drop mega money on a UFA goalie than trade for Lundqvist, even if it's Holtby. Obviously I would prefer Lehner or Markstrom but Lundqvist is not of interest at all, we can keep a better goalie in Talbot for cheaper (he wants to stay), plus I doubt he plays anywhere but NYR anyway.

Lehner aside, if you can get Markstrom I say go for it, maybe look at Khudobin or Talbot for 1 year. Otherwise, Hank is a better option by far among the other UFA goalies. So if you can't get 1 of those 4 guys, maybe you reconsider this deal.

And Hank will be playing for someone else this year or he won't be playing. FO has made it clear they're running with Shesty and Georgie...
