According to an Arizona fan, this deal probably would get done without Ryan (1st+B prospect was the ask, throwing a late pick in as well is fine), but I would still do it if they asked for this. Corey Perry has been the bane of this franchise for years lol it would be kinda funny to see him here. I don't think Brodie will cost that much to keep tbh

Kuemper is good but I wouldnt even consider that type of payment until after ufa. Even then that's a lot to give up for a goalie in a trend towards tandems.

I think Kuemper is just as good as Markstrom or Lehner and I’m a lot more comfortable paying Kuemper 4.5x2 than either of the free agents 6x6. Even if it means giving up a 1st

I disagree I would way rather keep the assets and pay for one of the ufas. Calgary gets burnt on Coyotes goalies. They are overrated from the system.

Kuemper is 5 years younger than Smith was and as bad as year 2 was, that trade was a win for the Flames. You got one season where he was a well earned NHL all-star and in year 2 he was outstanding in the playoffs

Yeah and we continue to give up assets for a patch and it continues to bite calgary in the ass. Rather go a different route.

Calgary has wasted so many assets on goalie trades and draft picks its obscene.

Best case scenario Kampeur is a short term solution and then we have to pay. I would roll the dice on a ufa and Wolf and keep the assets.

I would honestly rather sign a UFA as well, just wanted to see what it looks like. I'm done with spending assets on G and D. Keep the picks

I dont know who is responsible for goalie development for calgary but the quality assets ruined is unforgivable.

So.... you want to come back with basically the same roster as last year?? Do you just fear change in general, just really enjoy drafting between 15 - 20 or are you a masochist??

It's a mix of things.

Mason McDonald was the wrong choice, Demko was clearly the #1 goalie in that draft.

Jon Gillies was one of the best goaltending prospects in hockey, then he needed hip surgery. He hasn't been the same goalie since.

There's still hope for Tyler Parsons, he's battled injuries and mental health issues as well. Hopefully, he can get his body right and enjoy the game again.

Hopefully Wolf can buck the trend

I have zero idea what a Gaudreau trade looks like, so I'm not gonna make one

I hope wolf changes the trend.

Post draft analysis is subjective at best. I do know that the flames draft vs results is gross since 2000. Stop gap solutions have been equally abysmal since Kipper.

That's actually incredibly rational. And you aren't wrong. I was messing around trying to make some but I don't think it's possible to upgrade the team as a whole trading Johnny in the vacuum of a single trade. It would have to correspond with a FA signing or two, another trade or two and even then.... it starts getting unrealistic as I don't see BT overhauling 30-40% of the roster. To be honest I would be all for it, and truly believe they should fully embrace a "rebuild" of sorts. Selling "high" now on any/all of Johnny, Monahan, Gio, Ryan & Backlund would enable them to maximize return, restock the cupboard with high end prospect talent and potentially return to contender status around the same time the new arena is finished & fans are back in the building. Also fits into the wheelhouse of minimizing expenditures, keep Ward on as a great "Teacher" and weathering economic uncertainty.
