Brodin in a 3-way

Description
3-way trade is Dermott and a first to Arizona (allows them to cut salary). Minnesota gets Schmalz and Kuempfer (goalie and 2C they need). Toronto gets Brodin. Maybe Minny needs to send AZ something, but I think it's a plausible scenario, even if value is not perfect. I don't love moving Dermott considering his age, but Sandin is likely as good or better right now and he isn't able to move up in the lineup. He's good, but expendable.

I think Johnsson can help Edmonton which is why I moved him there.

You still have space under the cap where you can add another 4th line piece or 3rd pairing competition.

On this, we disagree

On what? Brodin is a rental or Minny needs to add to the trade (asset(s) would go to ARI)?

For starters, Toronto would have to add a lot to the Arizona deal...then the Wild would have to add a little (2nd or 3rd) to get the AZ players from your Leafs. Brodin is not a rental. If he is, that’s horrible asset management. At minimum, the parameters of a new deal would be communicated between Brodin’s agent and the team acquiring him.
But, none of this matters until Toronto seriously increases their offer to AZ. 3rd pairing, left-shot defenseman are a dime a dozen, and a late 1st usually ends up as a 3rd line forward or a 2nd/3rd paring d-man. You aren’t getting a proven #2 center with term and a good goalie for that!

This is a 3-team trade .The Leafs are not the team getting a proven #2 center and good goalie with term; Minnesota is, hence why they need to add to the trade; they aren't getting a proven #2 C and starting goalie with term for a rental LD. Brodin is a rental at the current moment and remains as such in this trade. Whether or not that would be bad asset management (it would be) is irrelevant, that's what is in this hypothetical trade.

How is minny getting all the best players in this deal and only giving up a rental defenseman who's best season was a grand total of 25 points lmao. the leafs and yotes lose on this deal BIG TIME

In that case, Toronto needs to just step aside and let AZ and MN hypothetically work this trade out because their ante is completely inferior to the chips the others are putting on the table.

Ah, common sense... God that's refreshing.

And I'll even stick up for Brodin a bit here because his value does not come through his offense, so I don't hold that against him at all. But I don't get how anyone can't see that Minny is making out like an absolute bandit in this trade.
