For reference: The JT Miller trade was a 1st, 3rd, and a goalie that now plays in Europe. So TJ would probably have similar value. Where McCann = 3rd + goalie.

What makes you think someone will eventually give up a 1st for Murray with the goalie market so saturated right now?

Because GMs always overvalue "playoff experience and cup wins" when making decisions. It's a tale as old as time.

I think you're better off going after Palat if you're giving up McCann and a 1st. He's a winger, but much better than Johnson imo

I think that's a bold assumption to make. If that was the case across the board, you guys would be trying to trade Jarry instead of Murray. Not to mention that if I was a GM in need of a goalie and looking for playoff experience, both Holtby and Crawford are just as good of options that won't cost you draft picks.

I can't see Ottawa doing that. Murray was brutally bad this season and there are so many goalies up for grabs right now. Frankly Nilsson and Hogberg (both under contract) AND Craig Anderson (who we could easily sign for a single year) all had better seasons that Murray.

Yeah, If I'm Ottawa, the only way I'm trading any of my 1st or 2nd rounders is if I've got a clear-cut #1 coming back, or some young offensive dynamo. This move doesn't fix the team or even get them close to the playoffs. Play the kids, let them develop and then fill in the holes.

I just wonder if Johnson is of value of 5m X 4.....He's a 40 point a year player right now.
