why

Everything I've heard regarding this signing is in case the AHL ends up playing. Hints of a prospect being used in a trade I guess.

I'm still trying to figure out how Patrick Russell got another NHL contract tbh.

My best bet is that Holland's playing 4D-chess: he might be expecting some of the Europe-loaned players to not return to North America entirely (I think Nygard falls into this camp tbh) and that he thinks Cracknell is going to have a legitimate shot at an NHL role. The alternative is that a trade is either imminent or waiting on the elimination of a team still playing. Either way, the moves themselves are far too premature.

yeah the moves are way way too early. Why burn contract count and or cap space on below replacement guys right now. There is realistically going to be a strong Buyout market this year with teams trying to figure out how to get under the flat cap.

Could easily be some quality NHLers willing to sign 1-2m 1 year deals after being bought out. Makes no sense to handicap yourself potentially by making fringe moves now

is Ken Hitchcock still an advisor? Cracknell played all his meaninful NHL seasons under him in St Louis so my guess would be Hitchcock recommended this if hes still an advisor
