Taking fluery is 2 2nds but paying for half of fluery and all of Neal has to be more than a 1st. Neal alone is a 1st

Oilers decline. That's ridiculous for a guy who's only overpaid by about 2.5M

Based on the comments above Wings fans & Oilers fans clearly value Neal differently.

He’s a PP specialist signed for 3 more years until he’s 36 @5.75M. I’d wager his production goes down further throughout the contract. That coupled with retaining 3.5M for 2 years is like paying Neal 9.25M.

So at the end of the day DET gives up 9.25 mil for 2 yrs, 5.75 in yr 3, and gets an aging winger, is that worth a 1sr & 2 2nds?

Yeah this is an unrealistic trade that wouldn’t happen but is the value way off?

Yeah I cant think of anything that was in the 9.25 neighborhood. Rangers might be the closest in 18 when they moved Nash and retained 3.9 & they also moved MacDonagh & Miller but the Wings don’t have those type of assets

I guess it depends on how you value the cap in this flat cap/COVID. I don’t think you can say it’s 9.25M x 2 years and 5.75M for the third year because Neal still could play. The way I determine value would be how much would you pay for Neal if he asked for the same contract duration? 3M? 3.5M? Let’s say it’s 3M for simple math, I’d calculate the dump as the useful value - current contract so 3M - 5.75M gives you 2.75M as a dump for each of those 3 years plus the retention on Flower 3.5M for two years. So that’s 8.25M from Neal plus 7M from Flower or 15.25M spread over 3 years. It’s hard to determine if those picks are enough because trades like this never happen and those picks are 2-3 drafts out and therefore undetermined so they could be 1OV-32OV. That first is also 2022 so let’s say they don’t bust they’re most likely 3-4 years out from draft unless a top 5/10 pick so your talking about a potential player in the 2025-26 season.
