Description
Assuming the Sabres have a low 70s internal cap as has apparently been rumored, what might that look like? Not trading for big name RFAs for sure.

Let's assume $72-73M.

I think they'd probably just let Montour go instead of trading Risto.

Could still fit that in under a $72M cap here. I figure get what you can for Risto, sign Montour for one year and flip him at the deadline to maximize assets.

Clever work and I really like Dvorak but this wouldn't be a playoff roster. It's going to be tough to mold the Sabres into it if they are low 70s.

I mean that roster sucks so it's probably quite realistic

I would. Buffalo wouldn't if there is really this internal cap being rumored. Danault will likely ask less than Reinhart but not by a lot. If he'd sign for $5M I'd offer Reinhart for Danault and maybe a 2nd (or maybe Mete)?

They'd probably be about the same as last year or maybe a little worse, but at around 10 mil less. Improvement!

Easier to keep the $70M cap when Eichel does finally demand that trade...

I'm working under the assumption that Risto is a good player that they should want to keep.

Eh...that might be a dangerous assumption. There are things to like but a lot not to like. Defensively he's a nightmare (positionally ans awareness) and there are times when he tries to pass to guys' shin pads consistently. They should have moved him at least 2 years ago.

Prepare for Jack Eichel to request a trade by next summer if this is the roster he has to work with.
