70M Internal Cap

Created by: Shootica
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2020
Published: Sep. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to keep us around $70M in cap with reasonable trades that don't completely tank the team.

CBJ fans, let me know if an early '20 2nd is fair for Anderson. I have a hard time judging his value.

Are you totally sure about that Habs trade? Because we’d do it in a second

Just one year of Anderson? And I think it'll take more than a second-rounder to get him, since that's the offer-sheet value at the contract price you set, and there's a lot of interest around the league in him.

Danault is super underrated... like it's a decent trade... but he brings so much to the team... it would be hard to let him leave.

I'm not crazy about it, but I'm trying to work with the Sabres' rumored internal cap in this mock and Danault is an ideal piayer for that.

Also, figured that you guys deserve a more than fair offer for Danault after probably getting lowball offer after lowball offer on here. smile

You're probably right, I have a hard time figuring out his value. Note that it is an early 2nd this year, but what do you think the cost would be for Anderson.

One problem with Danault is that he's due a raise in a year. You don't trade Reinhart for him without an extension. So the question is: can you get Danault signed for term for under or around $5M?

I don't think it should be more then a 2nd he is coming off awful season, is in last year of team control and had concussion plus shoulder surgery. Very likely whoever trades for him only signs him to a 1 year contract via arbitration or QO which sends him to UFA.

I guess my hope in this scenario would be that the team has a better financial outlook by the point when we'd be talking an extension, and we could do something in the $5.5-$6 range over term.

If that's the case, I'm all for the deal. But without the certainty of a contract in place, I look to trade Reinhart elsewhere. Can't risk letting Danault walk after trading Reinhart for him.

I think the MTL trade is fair if Danault extend with Buffalo. Buffalo really need complete center behind Eichel. Maybe it's bit overpaid from BUF but thats the price when the player stay in the same division. If i'm both team I'm doing this trade

Danault is a very good player, but Reinhart is better. That would classify as a huge trade between division rivals, and those just don’t happen. The last thing you want is to make a deal where the guy you gave up torches you for the next decade. Would I trade for Danault? Yes, but I wouldn’t give up what Montreal wants, so it doesn’t happen.

MTL doesn’t really want to trade Danault but the future is with Suzuki and Kotkaniemi. It’s a shame he doesn’t want to stay. My first target would be Ehlers vs Danault ( extended ), but Reinhart isn’t bad either

Probably a second and a third, though that high 2nd-rounder would definitely be enticing all on its own. That said, there are a lot of ways Jarmo could go with Anderson; he's expressed interest in signing a long-term deal, or he could be dealt as part of a package for a 2C or 1LW.

It is a bit of an overpay without an extension in place, I agree. But I don't think there are too many better options to fix a hole in the lineup while significantly cutting costs this year. And I think Danault is a very underrated player who we'd grow to absolutely love.

Underrated trade with the Sabres. I think both teams say yes.

That's good value for Colorado, I would accept that. Kinda depends on whether or not Timmins is ready though, as well as on what the plan is with Zadorov/Cole/Byram/etc.
