Perfect Offseason

Created by: koremoo
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 11, 2020
Published: Sep. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously this isn’t super realistic:
1. Karl Alzner does us a massive favour and agrees to a Mutual Contract Termination. This would be huge for us.
2. Some of these trades might be lopsided but thats part of a perfect offseason.

Things that were done;
1. Pick up the 10th overall pick. In my opinion, Sanderson has the potential to become Jaccob Slavin or better. Giving up Domi and Mete is not huge for me.
2. Find a trade partner for Byron’s contract, get it out before it becomes a nuisance.
3. Trade for Anthony Mantha and Josh Anderson. 2 big bodies that have the scoring touch. Solves the RW problem.
4. Trade Weal
5. Bring back Kovy (no doubt in my mind)
6. Bring in some depth on 1 year deals (which I doubt they would ever do but could make us contenders)
6. Sign some vets for the experience and create some internal competition.
7. Make sure you sign players to 1 year deals in order to be able to resign the big guys next offseason.

Typical delusional Montreal BS. If ALL of your players are so great why are you trying to trade them? Oh and BTW Struble would not be our best LHD prospect.

Problem with Mantha trade is, the reasons you want Mantha so do the Wings, big body good hands.

Wings will keep Mantha and build around him not ship him to a division rival unless it is an overpayment where Wings fill two holes with good NHL players or top.prospects and picks.
Struble is nice but not a top.prospect.

I do agree on most parts. The only thing I won't do is to trade for Mantha AND Anderson. Don't forgot we got Caufield. If you sign both these guys there's no place for Caufield because you can't put him on a 4th line and Gallagher will probably walk as a ufa because Mantha will ask for more than that and won't be able to pay him.
From what I've heard Sanderson plays a game similar than Werenski. I also would like the Habs to trade to get him. With him and Romanov the left side of the defenseman won't be a problem for years.

Detroit easily declines that offer for Mantha, And FYI Mantha stays in Detroit for 5 x $5.875m he's going to get far more then that. No way he signs that cheaply in high taxed Montreal when he can take home more in Detroit for the exact same money.

Don't worry, he made up for it by OVERPAYING for Anderson
Or is Poehling a cap dump????

    Not a cap dump, but:

    1) Poehling has 3C written all over him, which isn't enough for what Columbus needs,
    2) Don't think this deal gets it done if Anderson is willing to sign long-term with Columbus, as Dreger's reported, and
    3) If Anderson signs for $2.7x5, then I expect the headline the next day to be about a traumatic brain injury to Darren Ferris that occurred months ago.

To honestly say Struble > McIsaac or Johansson is homerism. Nothing he’s done post draft has made him better. If you were to say equal or “one of your best LHD” then I wouldn’t have an issue. I get it, every fan base loves their guys but when professional scouts like Hakan Andersson are gushing over a guy I’d take that opinion over someone that has limited to no exposure of that player.

Go check on Struble, did school last summer so he can graduate and play in the NCAA at 18 yo. Played at 18 yo, 0.5PPG and is stats are incredible. Go check on Twitter Mitch Brown + Struble is 6’0 205 lbs and a monster physically. He finished 1st at the NHL combine in the Wingate Test : which mesures a player’s anaerobic fitness. Finished first on the bench press / finished 1st in the Grip Strenght Test / Finished first in the Standing Long Jump, beating Spencer Knight. The guy killed it at the NHL Combine + had a really good rookie season before he got injured. Is transition game was on point, Zone Exits he was only behind Scott Perunovich, K’Andre Miller and Dylan Samberg, who are all way older then him

I’m well aware of who Struble is and why exactly are you bringing up combine results? Those were performed before the draft and therefore don’t shoot a players stock up after the fact nor have any direct correlation with how they develop from age 17 to the NHL. I’d argue the most useful thing from the combine is the interviews if done correctly or the medical examinations (growth plate & physical). So what exactly has he DONE post draft that makes him superior to Jared McIsaac and/or Albert Johansson. They are projected top 4 guys with different strengths and weaknesses but just because on is a workout warrior doesn’t mean they’re superior.

It’s all good, can’t expect everyone to follow every team’s prospects. I really like Johansson and would put all three prospects on the same tier. I just had an issue with the talks that Struble is superior as it’s extremely debatable.
