Trading Ehlers and Laine

Created by: TrueNorth
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 8, 2020
Published: Sep. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If you trade one, you had better trade both because they will be pouty that their bromance is over.

Jets sign Alexander Holtz #7 OA and Jake Sanderson #10 OA

Overall...

Top 6 has less high end talent and bottom 6 is similar (Rosy, Copp, Lowry, Harkins, Appleton are all more seasoned, Zajac set to retire in hometown).
Greatly improved Defense with the additions of Slavin, Severson and Edmundson.
Goaltending is still 70+ games for Helly. Berdin = Brossoit
Two great adds to the prospect pool with Holtz and Sanderson.

NJD deal - looks ok from value standpoint, NJD probably asks for someone other than Niku though

CAR deal - I think WPG adds a tiny bit...maybe WPG takes Nino instead of Trocheck (if playing at winger)

MTL deal - doubt Habs want either of those guys

Carolina pass HARD. Carolina should not be adding to Slavin for Laine, quite the opposite in fact

I was going to say this as well- I think Pesce and Trocheck is better from a value standpoint, although I still do not believe Carolina makes that deal.

Carolina would never take that deal as it makes them significantly worse unless laine starts scoring 70 a season

very interesting offer. I love Ehlers, would love to see him on the Devils but I can't see them moving 7th overall for anyone unless in a package for Laine (I wish). I would give 18th + 20th + Foote or something like that but I don't think I'd be comfortable moving 7 for Ehlers.

What do you see as fair value from Winnipeg for Domi?

I guess that I haven't appreciated Slavin's game enough to think that his value exceeds Laine's

So your counter-proposal would be Laine and 2020 1st + 2021 1st round picks for Slavin and Trochek? I don't think anyone but Slavin's mom would think that is a fair deal.

That's closer in value than this is to be honest

That doesn't fill any holes for Winnipeg, it just moves the hole from center to wing. Winnipeg would say no.

Yeah, they would. Slavin is worth Laine +, adding Trocheck needs more than some futures that don't help a team trying to contend. Something like Laine + Ehlers may entertain them, that though is garbage

Domi had 70+ points as a full-time centre in his 1st season with Habs

Okay, but that still means the Jets move the hole from center to wing, so no holes are filled, just moved. With Domi's new agent he's either looking to get overpaid long term or force his way to UFA in two years, so Winnipeg won't move 5 guaranteed years of Ehlers for that. Sorry.
