Description
The Canucks had a good season. Most thought they were a Bubble team on the verge to great things, but not there yet, but this team fought hard and were on the verge to eliminate Vegas. The major issue at least on the offseason was that they allow to many shots on goal. As we speak Markstrom is the second goaltender who received the most shots and Demko received 130 shots on 4 games (3 full games and 1 where he comed as a remplacment). so now there's expectation coming and few changes will be coming.
After a incredible season Markstrom becomes a ufa and he will command a big raise, but if I were Vancouver GM I wouldn't sign him. Demko was Always view as the goaltender of the future for Vancouver and I think the future is now for them. He's in the same age reach then the core of the team. He's 24, the same as Horvat, Boeser 23, Pettersson 21 and Hugues 20. They could all grow together. Meanwhile Markstrom is 30, he was also view as a good goaltender but last season was the first one he deliver as expected. Because of that as hard as it is I would let him walk and sign a 1b goaltender to backup Demko. The 1b goaltender would be Greiss imo. he should command something similar to what he's doing right now, plus I think two years is ok, that will allow Demko to fully establish himself as the clear #1.
Then I would resign Toffoli. He's top 6 material and had good Chemistry with Pettersson. I think Something around 5.5/6M should be enough for him to stay in Vancouver. Since I've said before that defense is a part of their problem I think they should bring back their best defensive defenseman in Tanev. He wants to stay in Vancouver and I think something similar to what he does right now is reasonable to retain his services. Besides Hugues there's no offense from the back end so I think Rafferty who's almost a point-per-game in the ahl will likely becomes a regular. He's a righthanded so I think he'll be paired with Benn who's more responsible that will allow Rafferty to create some offense. I would like to bring another dman, but money is tight, so unless there,s able to move Eriksson, Sutter or Roussel that ain't happening since they all hold m-ntc and I bet they won't waive to play for teams like Ottawa, Detroit who have lots of capspace but are on a rebuild. So the coaches will have to create a system that allow the other team to get less opportunity to shoot the puck to the net. They could also look to trade Virtanen's right but I think he's going to stay in Vancouver at least for one season.
The money is tight so I could see Vancouver trade Baertschi to a team like Ottawa. He needs a change of scenary and Ottawa needs to get to the floor so I think it's a perfect match for all parties. Then with Rafferty, Tanev back Myers the rightside is full so Vancouver also trade Stetcher. I could see Anaheim being interested in him as they lack rhd. I think a 3rd round pick should be enough.
Basically I think that will be the team to start next season, but things could get interesting close to the trade deadline.

There's no way Virt gets more than $2.5M, he really underperformed.

he's 24 and was on a 20-20 pace. I think he's in the 2.5-3.0 range.

Scratch Benn and Eriksson and play Juolevi and Hoglander. I'd also keep Baertschi in the minors and trade Beagle instead
