Same; just hope it's the same for the Bruins' front office

If Krug walks, the likelihood increases

Depends on what Zadorov is looking for in his next deal. No d-man has thrown more hits over the last 3 years and his numbers are similar to Brayden McNabb. If you use that as a rough comp, a deal like 4yr/$3 mil per wouldnt be bad.

Zadorov - McAvoy
Grz - Carlo
Chara - Lauzon

You can rotate Zadorov/Grz pending the situation.

On top of which he’s not signed, another RFA to deal with, so there is no idea of how it would affect cap.

Rather just play Urho and take the bumps that come with it, let him develop along the way.

Krug for all intensive purposes is gone. Changes nothing. Plenty of options.

I'm curious why so many say Boston passes. Over the last 3 years in all situations Zadorov has more goals and points than Carlo, nearly double the hits and almost equal shots blocked...while play around 500 less minutes.

We say we wouldn't trade Carlo for anything less than a 2RW or that Carlo isn't available, but were not willing to trade a 2021 2nd for a guy whose essentially a more physical LHD version of Carlo? Its not like age is an issue either because Zadorov is 25yr old while Carlo is 23yr old.

If you can sign Zadorov to a 4-6 year deal at $3-$3.5 mil and only give up a (what should be) a late 2nd, youd be crazy not to

That's why I said, " I pass " instead of Boston. Not sure they do that if they need someone for the second pair. I also rather keep the pick since we'll need them in the next years. Just not of fan of Zadorov, part of why I pass.

But what about his game don't you like? Personally my only concern is consistency, but I have the same concern with Carlo. Its actually kind of scary thinking about the similarities between the two. It looks like his QO would be $3.1 million (I imagine COL QO's him). Here's the other kicker....if you can get Zadorov on a solid contract, you just set the market for Carlo for the following off-season.

Zadorov is a beast when he’s on his game, and a liability when he’s not. Consistency has been an issue for pretty much his entire career. This season, for example, he was matched up with McDavid in a game in November and kept him off the score sheet. But in March, he was a healthy scratch after a game against the Ducks where he went -3. His physicality can be game-changing, he’s a very good skater especially for his size, he has decent puck skills and a bomb of a shot. But he has a tendency to get lost in his own end, particularly in front of his net.

In my opinion, he’s a 4/5/6 defenseman. He can play up in your lineup when he’s on his game, but will need to be sheltered when he’s struggling. Whoever he’s playing for need to be okay with that reality.

Regarding his contract - he’s an RFA with arb rights this year. He’s coming off back-to-back short extensions. He signed for 2 years at $2.15M back in 2017 right before training camp. He didn’t have arb rights at that time and the negotiations dragged on through the summer. Last year he signed for 1 year at $3.2M in early July, betting on himself to put together a good season this past year and cash in this summer/fall. Like I mentioned above, he was still pretty incosnittent this season, but he was excellent in the playoffs. I think he either looks to cash in on a long term deal at $4M+ annually, or he goes to arbitration and takes the 1 or 2 year deal at the arbiter’s number. He’s a UFA after the 21-22 season (I think).

This is a reasonable take, though I do think he is definitely Bednar’s whipping boy and harshly criticized. Though the latter occurs because of how dominant he can be when he is on and how off he can on occasion be. He is tantalizing when he is on, for example a stretch in the regular season in one week where he shut down McDavid and Kane, and looked like the 2nd coming of Pronger. Also he is a an awesome teammate, the guy that always keeps everybody loose. Hell the more I write about him the more I want the Avs to keep him.
