Initial Creation Date: Sep. 11, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
"Sources say the Sabres are considering an internal salary cap in the low $70 million range; the Arizona Coyotes, who recently failed to make on-time signing bonus payments to a number of players, may be operating just south of $70 million under their next GM; the Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly planning to budget in the low-to-mid $70 million range on an $81.5 million limit."

I'm sure the probably keep Keller despite the money situation. Sounds like there could be some desperation though. Highly doubt this works, but I like Keller so I took a shot.

They likely get way more trading those guys separately. But not an awful offer.

I really do not like Kellers contract, if we're giving up that much I'd rather get a guy who is more established in a top 6 role. Keller reminds me of Domi since he only has 1 breakout year and the rest is just average 40-50 point seasons - I think both of those players are overvalued in general

Couldn’t agree more. For what he is paid, Keller is a decidedly non play driving player and was thoroughly unimpressed with him this year particularly in the playoffs.

Agree completely.

With the deals available this offseason in UFA and via trade due to the flat cap it would be silly to go big like this for a player who costs $7m+ without being a legit difference maker.

Get him out of AZ and into Colorado's system and his contract will look waaaaay better (imo). There is definitely some risk, but I don't think it's that much. Dude is still super young and hasn't even peaked yet.

You would definitely be gambling, and unfortunately his contract in the current cap environment At least for me is something to avoid for a couple of reasons. One just the production value, and 2 if he is worth $7.15M what’s Landeskog worth $8.5-$9M more?

I don't think Landy needs to be contemplated. Different situations. Also, unless Keller goes to absolute sh*t, which I think is very highly unlikely, he should still have trade value throughout his contract. It's more probable he makes the contract look really good (imo). I get the hesitations though.

Zona has plenty of movable pieces. I doubt they’ll move any of the young guys

Except against the Avs where I was expecting him to show out a little. I know they got trucked but literally felt like he was a zero factor there.
