He doesn’t want to play behind Suzuki and Kotkaniemi in the future and MTL draft Kotkaniemi to become MTL #1C, but Suzuki had a terrific season so we’ll see between Suzuki and Kotkaniemi in the future. As for Danault, he might stay, but we won’t give him more than 5.5M. It’s more Danault trying to get paid and making sure he stays the 1C or 2C

We're good. Not trading 8+ for a decent 2nd liner

that's unreasonable... (I'm talking in terms of the sabres 1st round pick)

I’ve suggested Montour, Thompson and 8 for Danault and 16.

Is 8 available. If so 8 for danault extended. We could move him but could easily keep him a flip him for the same return at the deadline(with extension obviously)

if we give you 8 then we will need 16 back but we will add as well...extension in place obviously

Problem is you have no assets that we’d want. To tage or montour

It definitely takes the 8oa with a new deal. Danault shuts down every good offensive C in the league . He is great defensively and and good hustler in offense .

Montour, Tage Thompson, 2021 1st top 10 protected. Not worth giving up 8th OA for a guy who is a FA and likely wouldn't stick around

Danault isnt going anywhere unless its an unreal offer Kotkaniemi still hasnt proved anything and Suzuki was great but hes still pretty young . part of why KK and Suzuki were solid in the playoffs was Danault taking many of the defensive missions vs top lines. if habs trade Danault for b prospects and picks they ll probably end up looking like buffalo after trading o reilley

Keep in mind that when I'm asking this, I know it's unrealistic and the Leafs/Canadiens would probably not make a deal of this magnitude. This is just hypothetical BUT...

If the Candiens have decided to trade Danault, but he says he wants to test FA waters (i.e a deal involving can only be as a rental), would you do Danault for the Leafs 2021 1st (top 10 protected) and Liljegren?

Christ, you almost gave me a heart attack lol. I like Danault, but our best prospect and a 1st for any rental would scare me.

Follow up question: Under the same parameters as I mentioned before, how much (if at all) would you want the Leafs to add for MTL to retain half?

Like the leafs, cash isn’t a problem. So a pick. Not sure how high would be comfortable for TO

For just the one year, I'd probably do like a 4th.
