RHD and Bottom 6

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 12, 2020
Published: Sep. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Under cap at 23 players. Just wanted to show team with a bit a depth.

Perry, Spezza, Thronton all go league minimum to try for cup. Clifford, Maroon, Simmons all sign shorter deals with low cap hits. We will see how much money is actually floating around in free agency for them.

I assume I went complete over kill on the bottom 6. I also assume that most of them will not happen. But some may. They have guys scratched on here that would easily replace guys who don't get signed.

The goal was to add Defensive Right Hand Dmen (Brodie and DeMelo). Lehtonen was KHL Dman of year, so I slotted him into top 4. The other goal was to add size, toughness, veterans in the bottom 6.

Team looks nice though.

I keep seeing Holl trades on here which doesn't make sense to me (however I'm not a Leafs fan). Isn't Toronto's greatest need right-handed defenceman? Why would they trade Holl who's your only right-handed d-man and is on what I would consider a relatively cheap and solid contract?

I usually keep him. In this AGM I signed Brodie and DeMelo, so Holl become redundant (and for cap reasons).

If I signed Brodie and not DeMelo, I would have kept Holl.

I think between Simmonds and Clifford you choose one, and between Thornton and Spezza you choose one. I think it's a bit redundant, and too many older guys. Would love Maroon on the leafs.

I'd rather see the Jets make that Kerfoot trade then the Holl trade.

Jets would rather offer DeMelo more money than 3m AAV than have to pay a 3rd for a worse player.

This is assumed that the Leafs scoop DeMelo under the Jets feet in free agency.

Which he would. No one would willingly pick Winnipeg over Toronto.

They wouldn't. People on here aren't exactly realistic. Holl has been with the head coach for years between the AHL and NHL. He made a great pairing with Jake Muzzin last year. If you can upgrade, sure do it, but I don't see them moving him.
