Danault trade with extension

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 13, 2020
Published: Sep. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I like it for all parties. To Montreal fans, remember Mittelstadt was 8th overall pick in 2017. He has dropped off in terms of value since then but is still only 21. Could be a nice piece moving forward. And if not they get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks, which they can draft with or use as trading currency.

The rationale for the Pits trade is that they seem weak on right d and have an excess of quality goalies. So they downgrade their goalie scenario and trade a bottom 6 forward for a RHD, Backup goalie and the 38th overall in 2020 draft.

Toronto trade can be done with many teams. Pilut for another unhappy prospect.

Can Bracco be an NHL player? Or is he one of those classic AHL all-stars that aren’t very good in the NHL.

I thought he could be before this past year. He went from being one of the best AHL forwards, with mad skill, to throwing a tantrum and having an off year. I still think he has potential to be an NHL player but at least probably just a very very high level AHL player (Which has a lot of benefit, if he can fix his attitude).

I hope he gets a shot to prove himself at the NHL level.

I would do 8th overall for Danault (one for one) if Danault came with an extension already signed.

I think Montreal considers this package also.

I wouldn’t mind it at all. Especially if the owners are going to be cheap this offseason.

He’s not worth a top 10 pick even with a new contract. I imagine he’d want a no trade clause on any new deal anyway.

He just placed 6th place in Selke voting (top 6 at least, but i think it was 6th). If the 8th overall pick was in play, I would try for Cirelli first and if not, Danault who is extended would be very nice for Buffalo.

But I offered the package of Mittelstadt, 20211st, 2022 2nd, 2023 3rd, as to not give up the 8th overall.

Whats Mittelstadt projected to be? 2nd-3rd line C? And is he more offensively gifted or more defensively gifted?

Works for me,he wants a bigger role than he can get in Mtl. Now the hard part to get the teams and player to agree

I wasn't sure (I am a Leafs fan, so I don't know him well enough). So I just googled it.

His draft profile in 2017 was:

"Casey Mittelstadt is an offensively gifted center that was ranked in in the top-6 of all draft rankings by the midpoint of the season and later. ... With a tremendous passing ability coupled with his ability to score goals, Mittelstadt has the makings of a top playmaking center at the next level."

He just got 6th place in Selke voting. He is a defensive minded 2nd line centre who will put up 50 pts. Buffalo already has Eichel. This would be a perfect compliment to what Eichel brings. He would only be worth the 8th overall if he was extended. Not as a UFA though.

This is a fan message board, so im not giving away state secrets or anything. He is just offense. And the question is just how much offense. He got rushed- which was 100% the gms/owners fault, because ror got traded for 2 cap dumps and a case of crabs. Then he didnt exactly get nhl quality linemates to boot. Last year he got sent to the ahl to try to learn the center position and he was a minus player on a team with all plus players. Im not paying to watch ahl games, but i checked regularly to see if he was catching on, and although he did start to get better, i think theres some pretty reasonable questions about his future as a center. Thats my two cents anyways. Has good hands, looked slower than i expected, needs to put on some muscle too.

Anyone have thoughts on the Buffalo + Pittsburgh trade?

Seems like the Montreal trade everyone is mostly on board with the concept and same goes with the Toronto trade.

I would make this deal as a Buffalo fan. Just trading #8 for Danault would be too much, considering that he is UFA in a year, and as I understand it officially, it is still impossible to agree on extension.

Mittelstadt + #8 for Danault + #16
I would take a chance

He's more defense than offense, not interested at that price.

or you can just draft a guy like Rossi or Perfetti who has the potential to be way better

Way too much for Danault

#8 >>>>> Danault without any extension
#8 >> Danault with extension

If we had a mid-1st rounder I wouldn't hesitate to trade for an extended Danault. But #8 is a Top 10 pick and that carries much more value.

I dont want to give up anything for a goalie. Plus the whole arbitration thing, id rather let ullmark split games with whatever we can scare up in ufa.

Well he is gaining points, but of course I would not just give #8 for him without extension.

Olofsson - Danault - Reinhart - it would be a solid second line and Skinner could go back to Eichel and score his 35-40 goals.

If he was that valuable why would Montreal trade him just bc he wants more TOI, Suzuki moves to number 1 but Kotkaniemi has proved nothing yet...they had a good playoff but so did Ville Leino. He didn't score much for having Gallagher and Tatar as his wingers...as I've said elsewhere on here late first early second is as high a pick I would include but not 8OA. Mitts, 38 and include Pilut's rights JMO
If I include 8OA I'm getting more than Danault

Ya this AGM isn't the 8th overall though. It is the 2021 1st, 2022 2nd, 2023 3rd + Mittelstadt

Ya in this scenario I see Ullmark and Murray splitting games and Murray being protected in the expansion draft.
