Description
Edit: Not be Montreal, maybe Ottawa, LA or Detroit, but if JR gives up a 1st, someone will likely bite on JMFJ. It probably hinges on what JR can get for Murray. The most unlikely thing here is Horny waiving for Calgary. If he were to do it, he would fit in very nice on the Flames roster and Ryan could work nicely as a 3rd pivot for the Pens.

So...JR is going to trade it anyways and the Pens won't be winning any lotteries any time soon either. Maximize the roster this year, plus save cap. It hurts, but needs to be done. JJ should never be on the Pens blue line again, he has never won a playoff series and isn't about to.

If they have a 2nd or 3rd he'd be gone.

Not necessarily, I don't think anyone is calling JR asking for Johnson. It may be that if things don't work as JR has planned he may have no choice but to start calling around and offering the 1st. He may be holding out hope for a 1st for Murray (not going to happen), but if he is, he may have to change plans. Especially now that it is rumored that the Pens may need to have an internal cap, he may have to pull out all the stops.

It's okay to admit that you didn't read the description. It likely wouldn't be Montreal, but with a 1st attached someone with cap space will bite, especially a team that doesn't think they will compete in the next 3 years.

My dude, halt with the accusations. I did read your description, just providing some insight on why the Habsburg would decline. A team like the Kings or sens would accept

The Sens have Melnyk, so they won't likely be paying for a 3rd pair plug. LA could work, maybe I'll edit and put him there instead. Maybe Detroit might be an option as well.

Three years of no first round picks isn’t gonna help the Penguins in the future. Their time is done.

JR has only had 2 1st round picks since being in Pitt. It's not ideal, but it may have to be done.

I’d rather keep JJ than GMJR give up THAT first. Especially unprotected

I honestly don't know if the Kings would go for that, even with a 1st coming back. Johnson isn't getting a NHL roster spot, so they'd have to demote him to Ontario. Unfortunately, they have a lot of young guys with potential competing for ice time down in the AHL, so he wouldn't get many games down there either, because even though he might be marginally better than some of their depth defensive options like Markus Phillips or Jacob Moverare, they can't spare the ice-time for a guy in the twilight of his career. I suppose he could shuttled back and forth between the AHL and ECHL to fill in for injuries.

Alternatively, they could buy him out, but 6 years is a long time to have dead space on the books.

I'm sure GMJR could find a taker for JMFJ if he's willing to offer up a 1st, I just don't think it will be LA. There's too many other shorter-term cap dumps that would return a 1st in an earlier draft for the Kings to consider this one. (Eriksson from VAN for example).
