Strome is not signing a 2 year deal when he 1 year away from UFA and his last payday contract. He is either signing for 1 year or 6+, especially at that number. He has no incentive whatsoever to sell a UFA year that cheap and risk missing out on a big contract.

Signing Tony to a 2 year deal that walks him straight to UFA is also very silly. Sign him to a 1 year deal that keeps him RFA at the end or a long term deal at a lower AAV.

Feel like you can get Brodin much cheaper than that and just re-sign him.

It’s not that I don’t want Reilly, but can we at least try to give Toronto quality and need?

Thank you. The Leafs don't need futures. That's a trade a rebuilding team makes.

I doubt very much that Toronto would want to move Rielly. I would have to imagine the package would include DeAngelo (if he would get along in the Toronto locker room not withstanding), Georgiev and something else. Whether that something else is a middle 6 forward like Buch, or a Chytill maybe who knows. And maybe a pick. Rielly is very good and it would take a lot more than the spare parts squad.

Rangers fans imagine what you would want for Mika and that's a ballpark.

So you "technically" giving up 4 first round picks and Georgiev and a second rounder for "knee problems" Rielly.... Why so much?

Strome is not signing a 2 year deal. Reilly is not worth the value of what the Rangers are giving up and Toronto doesn't need futures.

Is the note 'Carolina 2020 1st' meaning that the 2021 1st in the trade is meant to be that 1st, or that it is there in addition to the other 1st?

Well you can drop the “locker room cancer” DeAngelo is among teammates considered a good locker room guy
And as far as the value of Reilly, he’s not worth your package if I get this right
DeAngelo
Georgiev
One of Buchnevich/Chytil
Draft pick x
I can get on board if Buchnevich/Chytil is dropped and the pick is no earlier then 3rd, however the timing is wrong. Reilly has two more years left on contract while DeAngelo and Georgiev are RFA, meaning Toronto can negotiate terms with them while Reilly is a huge risk to lose to UFA in two years

I don't think the Leafs do it for less than that was my point. Maybe they would, but Reilly is such a big part of their team that if the Rangers wanted him, they would have to ante up to the table and it would probably hurt. Trading Reilly for that package would hurt the Leafs as well, it's a tough deal for both sides.
