1. Generational talents are players who can only be replaced by 1 or 2 other guys in the league. They are the type of players that only come around once or twice every 20 years.
McDavid - can only be replaced by Crosby and MAYBE McKinnon.
2. Franchise players are the cornerstones of an organization. They are the types of players that if lost the organization has to rebuild.
Matthews - can be replaced by Aho, Draisaitl, Scheifele, Barzal, McKinnon (if you don't consider him a generational talent), Kopitar, Petterson, Horvat, Barkov, Eichel, Monahan and Malkin.
3. Elite talent, players that are not easily replaced but not the cornerstone of an organization.
