Peg says no. Too lateral of a move and not enough of a plus to entice the Jets to move Ehlers

DomCholette, you mean like the 1st round pick that went to Ottawa in the Stone trade? Yes he's younger, but in many cases the player who was last year's 1st round pick can be more desirable to the other team than this year's first round pick. E.g. Cole Caufield (over let's say hypothetically Dylan Holloway).

And yes, I know it's not the same example, but Stone was willing to commit to 8 additional years as part of that deal, vs. Laine who's acquirer would only be guaranteed for 3.

With that said, I highly doubt Winnipeg wants to trade a player who fits their team and is signed long term (Ehlers) over someone who didn't want to sign long term (Laine).
