Could this team win the cup

Created by: Leafs98
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 14, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In regards to the Nylander + Liljegren for Parayko trade, my thoughts on that were since the leafs have the 15th overall pick they could draft a RHD to replace Liljegren in the prospect pool. Thats why he was added in the trade to acquire Parayko as I wasnt sure if Nylander for Parayko 1 for 1 would go through.

I would split the 4c between Thorton & Engvall. Next, see how Barabanov & Simmonds perform. If they both perform well keep the lines as is and rotate Clifford & Engvall in the 4th line when needed. If Barabanov doesn't perform scratch him and move Spezza to 3RW and put Clifford in as the 4RW. I would as well give Korshkov & Simmonds a chance at 3RW.

Let me know what you think.

Blues have a solid know. That offer give you probably another 50% chance of Armstrong saying eff you and hanging up.

If all that goes through the team is definitely better, but still gets dusted by Boston or tampa.

"Could this team win the cup" Well why would they? Really iffy at the wings if you're depending on Barabanov, Spezza, junior Robertson and Simmons in your top 12.
Yea, it's great getting Parayko and OK getting Gudkas, but you also got rid of two NHLers in Dermot and Holl.
Why would Arizona trade 2 years of Kuemper for 1 year of Anderson
Crazy to give Holl away for nothing.
I know the Blues won the Cup in 2019 but this year despite having Pietrangelo, Parayko, Faulk and Dunn they didn't advance far this year You really think Parayko and Gudas are that much difference makers for the Leafs?

Kings don't want or need Dermott. I'm sure you could get a late 2nd or 3rd for him, but it's not going to be from LA.

They certainly are not but as we both know, according to fans on here, the Leafs can't win unless they trade all their young stars for way less than they are worth for 2nd pair defenceman (Parayko is a first pair guy yes) and then the same fans would say the same thing. "The Leafs don't have enough skill to win". Translation for those who don't get it, fans on here don't want to see any success from the Leafs. That won't ever change.

Matthews is a different story but at the same time why would trading parayko for matthews help us? Terrible defense came in for better offense yeah, but we end up Like toronto if we do.

Lol Matthews is becoming an elite defensive forward. Was 3rd in the league in takeaways. Ahead of Stone.

Ryan O'Reilly is already here. Sundqvist, Steen has been really good defensively, Barbashev has been decent.

Lol this is like saying you wouldn't want McKinnon or McDavid. Matthews is going to be that good.

Well I wouldn't want McDavid for a good reason. I would take MacKinnon, but McDavid and Matthews probably not. But because they are getting paid 10 Million a year. it harms our defense. Defense wins championships. it's a more spread out cap space, and way more depth.

Lol okay

2019 Stanley Cup finalists didn't have 10 Million dollar players. They had more depth. Toronto hasn't made it past first round because they spend money on their top players which means they have no depth. Look who is smarter team who doesn't take a 10 Million dollar price tag or one who does? I mean none of the teams who are in playoffs right none of them have a 10 Million dollar price tag. It just doesn't work you can't build a good team without cap space and if a player takes 10 Million per year, then well guess your out of luck getting the rest of the team together.
