Kakko's nice but I think Avs have more us for that $8M of cap space Hank costs them. Not to mention that re-signing Kakko in 2 years will be extremely hard for them.

Byram being cost controlled for 3-4 years is invaluable for them right now. I don't see him included in nothing but a trade making them clearly better right now. This is not it.

Kakko had the worst rookie season of any rookie in the league. Advanced stats showed just how bad he was. Rangers would be better off holding onto him and waiting for his value to increase. Right now his value is probably the lowest it'll ever be

Kakko > Byram, but probably not by that much. That's a pretty huge cap dump to throw on Colorado, and then they have to give up a 1st on top of that?

Bad deal for Colorado IMO.

Byram also solidifies our d-corp top-4 for the next decade. Makar, Byram, Girard, and Timmins.

Absolutely, but bringing in a guy like Kakko is never a bad idea. Byram is expected to be a solid #1 defenseman, #2 at worst. Guys like Pronman have Kakko in the borderline "generational" category. That might be hyperbole, but he's still a top quality guy. If there's a reasonable Byram for Kakko swap on the table that doesn't involve another 1st or a prohibitive cap dump, I think Colorado would have to strongly consider it.

Why not just offer Kakko for Byram? Lundqvist is a like a poison pill here.

Byram's a #2 at best. He's no Makar.

Kakko has more value and a higher ceiling than Byram.

I agree that he's no Makar, but Makar is special. That would make him a #2 on Colorado, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a #1 elsewhere. He has the tools to be a #1 guy in the league.

Pronman just today said that he likes Byram over Drysdale.

Almost anyone else would take Drysdale. Not only does Drysdale have a higher ceiling, he's also a right shot which is a big plus.

People are saying Drysdale is a #2D.

Byram is a #2D tops.

I know. I agree.

One adds a poison pill when they don’t want the other side to enjoy what they are serving.

I think the right-shot and high-end skating ability are the only things Drysdale has going for him. I think he's incredibly overrated, partly due to this draft class being incredibly underwhelming in skating ability, hence Byram looking that much better by comparison.

I wouldn’t take Drysdale over Byram. And I like Drysdale. But neither is going to be Makar, Miro, Quinn. One step below.

Not sure where Sanderson slots in but he belongs in conversation with Byram and Drysdale.

Obviously some injury concerns, but the kid belongs in the NHL. Can't count him out until we know more.

I agree, but as this trade stands now, it's a hard no.

Sanderson is a safe top 4 choice. He doesn't have elite potential.

All I'm saying is Byram isn't a #1D.

Drysdale was looking better than Byram at the world juniors. Drysdale's a full year younger than Byram which is huge at this age. Lafreniere had similar numbers to Byfield last year but he exploded this year.

Disagree on Sanderson. Dude is explosive. Skates like he is 5’6”. He played on very defensive team this year. I think he has a lot of offensive upside.
