No thank you from MTL. Laine is sort of a one trick pony (and he's addicted to Fortnite). Giving up Romanov as well as the 16th pick in itself is a no from me. That is literally our future. Plus giving up Domi? We shouldn't do that. For me, max deal would be Domi, Norlinder, Ylonen, 1st.

Honestly not bad. I still wouldn’t trade Laine for it, but I’d say it’s fair. I know trading laine/Ehlers for a C is all the rage, but if it creates a different hole in the top 6 I’m not that interested. We have no internal replacements for them. If we had a Caufield or a Zadina or a Podkolzin on the way up I’d do it though

Ok, so if the offer is Domi, Caufield and CHI's 2nd, would you do it?

Hmmm tempting. I guess if there’s a future top4 dman available with the pick. Like basically a Laine trade would have to address 2C, T4D, and a replacement winger. Could be a combination of current and future. I’d ideally do:

Domi (5.5x5 extended)
Romanov
Caufield

You could sub KK or Suzuki for Domi or Caufield but I’d want 3 higher end pieces that directly fill our needs

Theres just no chance MTL would do this honestly, none. If they were willing to even entertain doing something like this, the deal would have been done a long time ago.

This is why a player like Ehlers would be more appealing to go after for the Habs

Really? Ehlers is probably a better all-around player, but Laine is an elite goal scorer, plus he's younger.

Domi has been pushed out of the top 6 while Caufield and Romanov are unknown commodities at this stage. Better have the elite player than 3 lesser talents.

The owner said it, the reset is over. MTL has now lots of assets to spare, and it's time to morph quantity into quality.

Ehlers is a great all around fit. Plays a fast game, plays on the RW which is what Habs need right now. He’s also a former teammate of Drouin in Halifax and wouldn’t cost as much to acquire.

Laine might be an elite player but still has never put up over 70 pts. The rebuild is over because the Habs have drafted most of the missing pieces they needed.. Trading away a top 6 forward and locker room guy plus your two best prospects for one guy is taking a step back.

If Laine gets injured and misses half a season, the Habs have nothing to show for with that transaction and are back to square 1.

Name me the last time youve seen a team trade this much for one player

Pacioretty is a comparable, but it makes sense to offer a bigger package for a player that will be 7 years younger at the time of the trade, and who's a pending-RFA.

Vegas traded Tatar who wasn’t performing well, a 2nd and at the time their 2nd best prospect for a 35+ goal scorer.

Trading Domi, Caufield and Romanov for a guy thats 7 years younger is not worth it for the Habs. Its just too rich and thats basically putting all your eggs in one basket and hoping it works. I love Laine but not at the cost of undoing the last 3 years of work. Thats just too risky.

Obviously, there's a fair share of risk involved, but at one point you've got to go all in. Is swapping Domi for Laine sufficient to push MTL in contender territory? Maybe, maybe not. But if MTL stay put and wait for Caufield and Romanov to pan out, will the team be in a better position consireding that Price and Weber will be closing in on 40?

We should know where Romanov and Caufield stand in the NHL before then, price is 33 and Weber 35. Caufiels should make the jump in 2021-2022 and Romy should play next season. What if Romanov turns out to be a top 2 D and Caufield keeps up his scoring pace in the league? Domi could be expendable now but doubt Bergevin lets go of his 2 prize possessions

Just as I was replying I saw what Bergevin said yesterday on Twitter.

Suzuki is staying in MTL.
KK and Romanov are staying in MTL.
“Lose Price to the expansion draft? Price is staying here you can mark that down.”

Word for word what he said.
