Really? is that something the devils will do? cause I actually don't know if the flyers will. Retaining 2 mil for three years is tough. I think they would rather pay more to get the whole thing off the books. Also JVR may find a scoring touch next season, never know.

I think retaining 1 million instead of 2 might help the Flyers more. But, I don't really see the Devils taking his whole contract it didn't work out for them last time (Subban).

oh definitely, 1 mil is better and this wouldn't be the trade for the whole contract. If the flyers trade JVR now, it will take a 2nd and a decent prospect. If they don't and he has another bad season, then it will definitely be a first and late pick, but if he plays well, then they cross that bridge when it comes.

Given there current situation I think the Flyers would be far more likely to trade a 3rd and a prospect than retain 2 million, especially considering JVR is still a pretty good player and Wood doesn't have a good contract either

Flyers have to add, JVR is still a cap dump at 2M retained

JVR is not a cap dump. He is still a 20+ goal scorer. He is worth ~$5 million a year if you have cap space and don’t have to give up anything for him.

Cap dumps, in my view, are players team have to pay to get rid of...and those are usually more team-specific. JVR contract is a lot to swallow, but PHI will find a place for him.

JVR is due $6mil this year, $7 mil next year and $5 in two years ($18 million over 3 years). He has no NTC or NMC. If NJD got PHI to eat $2 million and offer him for nothing....NJD 100% takes that.

This is just immensely incorrect. Dude still scores at a low 1st line/high second line winger rate, if not for Philly being super deep at LW and having some of the worst puck luck I've ever seen he probably tucked 25-30 this year. At that he would've been 2nd in goals and 3rd in points on the Devils this past season. Take into account that the Devils are sending back their own bad contract and if anything they would have to add to this trade as it currently stands

19 goals in 66 games... roughly a 25 goal pace in a down year. So yeah, finding that scoring touch is not a real concern.

Likewise, how many guys can you trade for that guarantee you between 25 and 35 goals in season. $5 million a year for that type of production needs to be paid for, not a cap dump.

Yeah but that was on a much better team than the Devils. However I agree that he isn't really a cap dump but much like Subban, he is overpaid for what he is now, and at his $7,000,000 a year cap hit I cannot see him getting much back.

At $7 million he is overpaid and at that price we are just looking for relief. At 5 million or 5.5, he is a viable option for a team looking for scoring on the wing... Same page!
