Trades
CHI
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
This trade is fair from a value perspective only if Det values Maatta as being worth a middle round pick. I would like to emphasize that this trade can either include Maatta OR the Blackhawks own 3rd round pick should DET fans prefer it. I think a middle round pick is standard for Maatta, but as far as I can tell DET fans are lukewarm at best to the idea.
DET
  1. Määttä, Olli
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
The Blackhawks really like Sam Colangelo by all acounts. I think he may be on the board at 46, based on looking around at some different mock drafts, but I wonder if the Blackhawks get jumpy and try to trade up for him.

Isn't that what we are all trying to achieve with our time on cap-friendly!

I think the problem DET would have is with the pick swap. Moving from 32OA to 46OA (whereas 32OA will be a 1st round pick after next season) for a guy that you can find on the open market pretty easily on a rebuilding team isn't of value. Maatta would make sense for value to a contending team (as he has a cup already), but the pick swap is not worth it for a non-contending team.

If we did want to trade for Maata I think I'd rather just give up a mid-round pick instead of trading down from 32.

Hendrix Lapierre might be too high risk for the hawks to take at 17.

I don’t think Sam Colangelo will be there at #46. Probably gone in picks 25-35. He could even go ahead of Lapierre.

I can't believe we're about to agree on something, but THANK YOU for selecting and bringing Hendrix Lapierre into the discussion. No one else has bloody listening, but I think he is the perfect target for that pick. He's an underrated dark horse, with the potential to come in and do what Debrincat did (before he negotiated his deal and fell off the map, anyway).

I think he may be gone at that position, based on Scott Powers article in the athletic, the hawks may reach for Colangelo at 17.

Not a chance Wings make that move. There's usually a few first round talents that fall out of 1st. Wings need more high end prospects, this trade doesn't help them achieve that. Maata really does nothing for them

I haven't yet read Powers' new piece, but Lapierre has been hanging around the 19-27 range for months now... That sucks if he moved up, I was dark-horsing for him...
