CBJ declines, as you're requesting two assets that Jarmo's already marked as off-limits. He's been adamant about not trading any more first-rounders, and we can't afford to give up Bjorkstrand when we need MORE scoring forwards. We definitely have interest in Monahan, but this approach won't get it done.

This mirrors trades for other top 6 forwards and CBJ gets the C which is the premium asset. Give to get. If you aren’t dealing a 1st or and/or a quality asset the only way you add a top 6 scorer is free agency. Basically you are boxed into a Granlund bidding war.

Or we give up a defenseman something we have a surplus of, a prospect and a middle six forward like Andy or Jenner for a 2c.
Not our first and our arguably best forward.

I'm not saying it's an unreasonable ask on its face, in terms of value. But these are assets we simply can't move. We're better off trading one of Savard/Murray/Nutivaara along with other assets (e.g. Anderson's RFA rights, a goalie prospect like Tarasov/VV, Dubi's LTIR contract, maybe Korpi) to a team that needs them, rather than making this move.

I don't think CBJ's defense it's the surplus it's made out to be. Outside the top 4 it's not the best group 5 on 5 and don't really bring any offense. I could see Anderson replacing Bjorkstrand in this trade. Jenner is a bottom 6 forward who gets torched at 5 on 5 and is expensive for his level of offense. He and a 4/5 defenseman aren't landing a 2C.

Murray (when healthy, admittedly a big caveat) is a top-4 LD who drives play very well. Kukan is rock-solid as a third-pair guy and has earned Torts' trust. Andrew Peeke is going to be very good, and is the reason Jarmo is entertaining a trade of Savard. Nutivaara (a longtime favorite of mine) would likely be top-4 on a lot of teams in the league, and can capably play either side. (As for Harrington, I have no idea why he ever sees the ice... it's truly baffling.)

We might not be able to get a 2C, but the deal you proposed doesn't fit with our roster's construction, particularly as Monahan's contract would make it considerably more difficult for us to give Dubois and Gavrikov the raises they deserve.

Why would Columbus trade their best forward and only top line wing for a 2nd line center? This trade makes Columbus worse imo. Monahan could be a number 1 Center, but he’d be our number 2. No reason to give up that much for a 2nd line guy. There’s other cheaper we’d rather explore. Players like Tyler Johnson or Anthony Cirelli could be hade for futures without moving roster players.
