I signed him following Evolving-Hockey projection. (3y would be 3.9m, the most probable scenario to them)

Needs :

reliable center on 4th line if Evans (or even Poehling) have difficulty. Pref 1 year deal (Paquette, Nash, Cizikas, Bozak retained, or UFA Thompson)

winger : pref an offensive threat (Domi trade for Rakkel? Reinhart?). Avoid the wingers in UFA at all cost (Dadonov, Granlund, Hoffman & Toffoli will aim for +6m +5y and we can't afford it).
To a lesser extend, resign Kovalchuk (gentlemen agreement must mean something...). But at the very least, Bergevin should use Molson's money and aim for a cap crunch team with a player with 1 year left for next to 0 cost (Chiasson, Grabner, Perreault or w/e), ie an other trade like Allen. I would not stand an other year with unused cap space with a rich owner with so many cap crunch teams

Gone :

Lingren obviously due to recent signing/trade
Weal who has 0 trust from Julien (Belzile+Weise prefered to him) even if he can be a 13th foward else where with his OK skill set. Can be part of a trade for a more expensive foward that a team cant afford (ie Chiasson).
Mete/Kulak could be moved if Edmundson is signed

I have no idea why MTL would sign Edmundson. Mete > Edmundson and its not close.

It has to be a precursor to a bigger move.
We're gonna have a backlog of like 9 defensemen fighting over 2 spots come training camp.

Seems like Bergevin sees something in him others dont (kinda was the same for Chiarot). He really wants a reliable LD on PK i think, Mete & Kulak aren't

Yeah Edmundson is solid on the pk but hes awful 5v5. If I were Bergevin I would go after Craig smith and try to get him on a 2-3 year deal. Solid goal scorer and he was arguably the best winger for NSH this past season.

Kulak was very good in our series vs you this post season. If you are moving him out, what is the asking price?

Read some good things about him too. He's projected at 4.4 for 3 years on Evolving-Hockey. Would be tight, too tight I think. Domi wouldnt get same AAV than Drouin. Mete can't really be lower too. Let's say +300k + Weal gone = 1.7m. Maybe 3.9m for 3 years with 22 roster

To me he's worth a 3rd, but it would be a hockey trade for a winger.

Likely valued at ~ 2nd round pick. Not sure if MTL is interested in picks though, they would probably want to package him or Mete and possibly domi for a scoring winger.

I think smith is one of the most underrated wingers in the league - he can do it all. Considering he’ll get 4.5-5 x 3-4 years at most, I’d take him over any other UFA winger. I know MTL has trouble finishing so I believe smith would be a great fit.

I'd love Weal, Mete or Kulak on either the Blackhawks or Islanders, all are very solid depth players

Weal especially seems like a good defensive 4th liner
