Best Edmonton could do is Russell for Sutter, and even then, not sure if I'd want Sutter.

Why would you trade Demko after his AMAZING playoff performance!?!

No thanks to Sutter at all, they can keep him.

I will wait for the next Woodguy BecauseOilers entry in his finding a #3C series when he covers Sutter before immediately declining. I want some insight to the math without having to do so myself, but it's worth noting that offloading Russell is incredibly important to next year's Oilers.

If guys like yourself think we should be trading one or both of Nurse and Klefbom, there needs to be a defenceman in the system ready to take their place. Jones is the closest, but he's not there yet. Finding him more minutes this season is so, so vital to the long-term success of this team. Russell needs to go: I have minimal expectations for this team next season (literally, make the playoffs). If making room for Jones requires taking on Sutter, but that benchmark can still be met, it's progress. Reality is, this team is missing too many of the key pieces to be penciled in as a contender, and one of the hurdles keeping them from being so is a nonexistent prospect pool and a high amount of dead cap. Until one or both of those things are mitigated, playoffs - maybe even the second round - are apt to be as far as this team realistically goes.

You lost me at Sven Baertschi...

I would, however, consider a Dumba/Greenway for Demko/Gaudette/Virtanen trade.

Fair enough. Sven was only there for cap purposes

Yes you are right, there are to many missing pieces, but the year after should start looking really good. IMO and thats why I did that team yesterday, it wasnt for this yearcoming up, but next year would be outstanding.
