My god. The Murphy for Nylander trades are multiplying. I wouldn't have thought they were smart enough to figure out how to do that?

How much better is Connor Murphy than Dylan Demelo, Travis Hamonic, Chris Tanev, etc? Is he better than any of those guys? Good enough that you would waste assets trading for him? You could sign one of those guys and not have to trade Nylander (and don't talk about cap dump, if they need to dump salary it won't be Nylander).

Well, the Leafs have $6M in cap space with only 9 forwards signed for next season and the blue line seemed like an issue last season...so you're knocking trading for a middle pair D on a reasonable contract and a really good winger in Saad at a $3M cap hit? I'm not sure how he Leafs just sign one of those free agents D without moving out salary. It seems they need to move out some salary already, no?

They sure do. But they're not trading Nylander for scraps because you want them to. They'll trade Johnsson. Or even Kerfoot. They'll be filling out the 4th line with minimum salary players. They have more than enough space to ice a full team if that's what you're insinuating. They could even just resign their RFA's and be fine. No sense in them forcing a trade with a player of Nylanders calibre.

Cool. We will trade you Travis Dermott and Zach Hyman for Debrincat. Sound good?

Is Dermott signed at a reasonable contract for 2 more years or is he an RFA? Are the Blackhawks losing one of their top 3 D to free agency with little cap space so they should think about retooling to help their blue line? And is Hyman really a top 6 forward, or did he play on top 2 lines more so because of injuries and lack of forward depth? How does Debrincat work with the Leafs cap space, especially if the Leafs retain salary on Hyman? 50% of Hyman plus Debrincat's 6.4M is a net increase of $7.5M versus the cap, which puts the Leafs 2.2M over the cap while still needing at least 3 more forwards and now they're short another D. Yikes for them.

The Blackhawks also already have middle pair Dmen, and middle 6 type forwards, so I'm not sure what need Dermott/Hyman meet for the Blackhawks. I don't think your trade proposal for Debrincat is well thought out, to be honest.

Sorry man, but you missed the point. My point was to make the suggestion that if you wouldn't take that return for Debrincat, the Leafs should not be taking Murphy/Saad for Nylander.

So it seems like you agree with me. Cool.

oh, no, you missed my point. Murphy has more value than Dermott (and a better player), Saad is a better player than Hyman, so your trade proposal for Debrincat wasn't an apt comparison imo.
