Quick rebuild
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 8, 2020
Published: Sep. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description I'm 100% sure the Sharks will try to compete this year, DW would lose his job if he stinks so why would he begin the rebuild for someone else? But what if he had job security and traded Meier and Kane, and took on some cap dumps in exchange for younger assets? Fill out the roster with a low risk/reward RW (Smith/Fast) and take a chance on Galchenyuk/Granlund/Haula/etc. with a one-year deal.
With this, the 2021-22 Sharks could look like:
Forwards: Couture, Hertl, Newhook, Poehling, Lebanc, Smith, Gregor, Leonard, Chemlevski, Turris, Blichfeld, True, Kellman
Defense: Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic, Merkley, Pasichnuk, Ferraro, Simek
Goalie: Raanta, Melnichuk
With four 2020 draft picks in the top-60 on the way and less than $67 mil on the books (even with a $81.5 cap, that leaves at least $14 mil in cap space).

Given the term, I have to imagine that the Predators won't want to retain anything.

You'd have to give us your 2021 1st round pick just to take on Martin Jones contract.

You expect the team to contend then you trade away Meier (your best player) for scraps, sign 2 well overpaid contracts (Galchenyuk & Smith), and take on an anchor of a contract (Turris) ... You're just asking this team to finish last

I agree Newhook > Kane
But the 50 points thing just isn't true. He was on pace to hit 50 this season and also hit 50 points in both seasons before that too.

Detroit gets fleeced
Preds get fleeced
Both teams decline
COL very unlikely to do that
Sharks get fleeced by Montreal.

Yeah I think the locker room cancer thing was a more a maturity issue and an obvious personality conflict with Bfylugien
But you are right there is no way Newhook is going in a Kane trade.

Montreal would accept... but I think it's unfair for SJ.
I'm a Habs fan and I would accept that trade.
