I suggested this trade to a Wild fan last night and he told me they don't like to trade with the Blackhawks, even though this probably helps both teams.

I hate all the relations aspect and ego GM, they should do what is best for their team to become better!

Wild aren't adding $6m in dead cap for 21-22 when they'll need cap space to extend Fiala, Kaprizov, Erickson Ek, and find a replacement for Staal.

Hawks aren’t interested. We don’t need anymore RD.

Hawks pass. They need LD not RD. Already have 4 RD that need ice time.

Dumba is a nice piece, Hawks could flip him for there actual needs, or move Murphy , I get it's extra work for the Hawks but really there are 3 Centers available today Strome's and Domi and none of those teams have a need for Dumba - Hawks could likely pry the 15 OA plus out of TO for Dumba

There’s no reason to go through all the extra work, as you’ve said, so there’s really no incentive to do this. We aren’t going to go out of our way to trade Strome for a piece we do not intend to keep, that COULD net us a distant future if they were flipped to Toronto.

Because none of these teams need Dumba as you said, is why this trade won't work. The Wild would have to flip Brodin (after extending him) to the Hawks to get Strome and that is unlikely. Unfortunately, the Wild don't have other pieces that would be of interest for Strome and that includes the #9 OA pick wouldn't get him either.

I agree. Just thinking out of the box....even if it's a stupid idea... a 3-way trade?

TOR - Dumba & Staal - RD with a little term...Better #3C to win now & Can also give cap space next year.
MIN - Strome & Caggulia & Andreas Johnsson - MIN get's a true centerman and a guy with Grit to protect their prospects. TOR gets to shed that $3.4M contract, but AJ can get a chance to rebound in MIN.
CHI - TORs 2020 1st and Kerfoot

TOR loses $2M in cap this year, but gains cap next year and gets a better team. Maybe MIN needs a sweetener???

I don’t think trading away Strome for the 15th pick in the draft, even if we get Kerfoot to replace him, makes us better in the short or long term. It’s essentially punting on him. who is going to be there at 15 that we probably couldn’t already get at 17, and is worth the downgrade?

That's fair. Picks are always a risk. Even top 5 picks. Just thinking out loud.
