What are they going to do with the cap most likely staying flat 5-6 years? Hyman, Dermott, Rielly, Sandin, Andersen, Mikheyev etc need new contracts.

I would take both those trades as Leaf
In effect, Nylander, Johnson for Pietrangelo, Kostin, Sunquvist, a 1st and a 2nd.
PS. I don't think Johnson returns a return with no cap returned....despite what the Leafs got for Kapanen.

Pietrangelo will want 8 x $9.0m from St Louis he's not taking less in high taxed Canada. Try more like 7 x $9,5m minimal.

5-6 years? how is any team gonna make that work? I thought it was gonna be flat for like 2 years and then they'll hit their revenue target and it will slide up.

obviously GMS value leafs forwards highly. if kapanen/Coleman/goodrow go for what they did, nylander gets a kings ransom

Pessimism is slowly creeping in. A few teams are rumored to be for sale, and most clubs say there will be losses without fans.

kerfoot would go before Nylander, especially if you are going to play him as 3rd line wing.

Except

Johnsson>sundqvist
Liljegren>kostin
(Both not by much)
Pit 1st > Stl. 1st

And nylander has twice the term of parayko

Not that I ever agreed with the parayko trades either.

It is only flat for next season.

After that it depends on covid and revenues.

Which is why this theoretical exercise on signing Pietrangelo is silly. It's not going to happen.

You happen to have a source for that information that flies in the face of everything we've heard about the cap staying at 81.5 for 2 years then going to 82.5 in 2022-23?

The cap is only released 1 season at a time.

Here is the google search, I mean it really isn’t that difficult.

A lot of sensible, or maybe most aren't, think Andersen can be traded to Carolina or Colorado for a 1st.

As someone said the sun of the trades get you Pietrangelo, Sundqvist, Lost in and 26 OA...

This is from the hockey writers:

"The salary cap’s upper limit will stay flat for 2020-21 at $81.5 million. It will stay there until hockey-related revenue returns to $4.8 billion.
If it hits $4.8 billion quickly, the new upper limit will be calculated from actual hockey-related revenue from two seasons ago, plus the projected HRR from the immediately prior season.

The rules pertaining to signing bonuses will not change and the NHL minimum salary will increase from $700,000 this season to $750,000 next season. It will rise to $775K for the 2024-25 season and $800K for the 2025-26 season."

So that generally supports what @Jamiepo is saying about when they calculate it but @A_K is right about the revenue target

Personally, I'd take Sundqvist any day over Johnsson. Lilj for Kostin is pretty close, I think each team would take their guy. I actually wouldn't be opposed to looking into a swap between them.

Liljegren is far more important too the leafs. Looks be a good two way top 4 Dman soon. Johnsson is highly underrated by even leafs fans. Should easily be a 40-50 point winger for the remainder of his contract.

This trade is bad, the Parayko trades are bad.

How good are Kostin and Sundqvist? I know Kostin was a great prospect a year or two ago, but my vague knowledge is that he has fizzled some? Is Sundqvist a legit 3C?

So in other words, no reason to think there won't be a flat cap for the next 5-6 years. Sticking with the initial projections by Friedman thanks.

Kostin hasn't done much in the AHL but whenever I watch he is playing 3rd line minutes on a pretty crappy team. Def a polarizing guy - there are people that love him and people that think he's way too inconsistent. Like Liljegren, he's still one of the youngest AHLers despite playing in the league for a couple yrs already. He is probably gonna get a full time call up this season and likely peaks as a middle six power winger with some skill. His feet are a little slow still but as long as he keeps them moving he's an effective player. Big guy, nice shot.

Sunny is a smart defensive-minded guy and for the money he does a lot of things for a team, including scoring goals. Good speed and gets a lot of chances at 5v5. Fan favorite sort of like a Hyman-type presence. He's played all over the lineup and seems to work anywhere.

I'd def rather have Nylander than the package here, just kinda spitballing on what a Leafs team would look like with Petro.

I believe TML should keep the Core 4, skip Pietrangelo and for his 8m + 2M from Holl land two middle Pair Ds who will backup Rielly in his own end and Muzzin per se so he wont wear himself off in first 30 Games as he must with Holl beside him. Cause Rielly and Muzzin already are Top Pair, just they are both LHDs and as it has shown they cant be deployed together.

Assets to be used to get those 2 Ds should be 2020 1st, 2021 1st, Hyman, Johnsson, Kerfoot and Dermott. Team was built on F depth with neglecting D problems and it didnt work out for last 2 Season, one of which was already window for Cup.

My credo here from the day i created account and started to tell TML fanbase about what Bear Bryant said.....
