Dumba is UFA in 3 years, he's coming off a below-average year as well.

The Wild should run to accept this. They need to trade Dumba to avoid losing him (if they do 7-3) or someone else good (if they do eight skaters) in the expansion draft. And Nylander is excellent. They can flip him for the center they need if they absolutely have to have a center, or they can try him at center where he has experience

Not sure Dumba is the kind of defenseman the leafs should be looking for. They need someone who is defensively responsible, and that is not Dumba. He's more of a Barrie type defenseman, and, well....

Yeah but it's not his strong suit, He's still a much better player on the wing just like with Rasmussen and Detroit.

Dumba is an offensive defensman, like Rielly, who loves to rush the puck, like Rielly, and has his own fair share of shortcomings defensively, like Rielly.

Think about a more physical version of Tyson Barrie who just cost almost three times as much and isn't good enough defensively to move the needle enough to make a difference where it counts IMO.

Yea Dumba is better than DeMelo. But it's a question of Dumba for Nylander and second as you proposed....which as I said is a fair trade
Or do you trade Nylander for lets's says 1st and 3rd. 20th and 95over. Sign DeMelo, and still have 2.5m in additional cap space to improve the roster.

He's an offensive dman with a big shot, that is not great at moving the puck, and not great in his own end. Limited PK time in Minny.

He's decent at stopping zone entries.

Paired with Rielly, they would struggle vs other teams top lines.

I'd take Dermott @ $1.5M >>>> Dumba @ $6M especially if it meant losing Nylander.

Even the physical play has diminished with injuries. He doesn't have the frame to withstand throwing 150+ hits per year. Dermott has been more physical in last few years.

He brings physical presence and is a great leader. He got a shot but ins't horrible at defending

He throws about the same amount of hits per game as Dermott, and is 185 lbs. Let's not pretend the Leafs are getting Scott Stevens here.

He is pretty bad at defending, he's been paired with Brodin (one of the top defensive dmen in the league) for last few years, and still struggles in his own end. Minny rarely uses him on the PK if everyone is healthy (same way teams use Barrie, Gardiner, etc.)

Him plus Rielly would pretty well work out the same way as pairing Rielly with Barrie.

There is way cheaper/better/easier ways to get good leadership. Sign Wayne Simmonds (loved by teammates and in each community he's played) for less than $2M. Done.

Well that is a terrible idea. We have cap space for this year. And can get more by moving Johnsson or Kerfoot. Selling low on Nylander just to get cap space to sign FA's is silly.

It so obvious you just hate the leafs. Every trade involving a leaf player is an automatic no, followed by some crazy nonsense.

He is also way better than Dumba who is a 2nd pair guy. He's not the answer in TO.

Nylander is an elite offensive player just entering his prime. That is a horrible return for him. The majority of 1st round picks don't amount to what Nylander is now, why on earth would you just give him away and hope you find a replacement?

Of course i hate the Leafs i'm a Wings fan we hate just about every team not named Detroit. But bottom line i doubt Guerin wants Nylander for Dumba.
