If and I say if Krug wants to come home, Wings can wait and keep pick. Makes zero sense to trade sown to sign Krug. Either he wants to sign here or he does not, no use in wasting a pick.

This is the scenario that he doesn't have a clear favorite place, and multiple teams are looking to sign him. DET uses their massive amount of draft capital to get the first crack at him.

2 days of negotiation rights aren’t worth losing 13 spots in the 2nd round and a 6th. MAYBE just the 6th

Yeah well he pretty much has a clear favorite hometown Detroit, Krug and his wife have already pretty much said that they're raising their children in their homestate of Michigan both want to be near their families. So Detroit's not giving up a 2nd and 6th for Krugs negotiating rights when we know that we're the front runners for him.

        I disagree.

When was the last time you saw rights traded for anything significant? Hayes and Edmundson both had their rights dealt for a 5th, and those teams traded for multiple weeks of time, not essentially one day (Oct. 7 is day 2 of the draft, Oct. 9 is free agency opening day so practically they only have Oct. 8 to negotiate). There’s not a chance that’s worth essentially a 3rd or late 2nd (which is what it would normally cost to move up that many spots in the 2nd) and a 6th. It might be worth a 6th or 7th but they probably don’t do it at all at that point

        a. Let me know where you saw that and heard that.
        b. I didn't know you were running the organization? Since when did Yzerman give you responsibilities.

Well, this can also give Detroit the option to sign him to 8 years instead of seven on the open market, which can help bring down the money.

UFA rights are essentially worthless though. Maybe you get a 5th if you trade them today, a 6th or 7th next week, and then you probably get nothing after that. Krug is also 29 so Detroit might not even want to give him the 8th year

Dude it's been in the Detroit papers and the news media, It's not shocking that Krug has desires to play for his hometown team plus play under his Juniors coach in Jeff Blashill his wife is very close to her family as he is his not rocket science here.

No it doesn't, Trading for a players negotiating rights doesn't give them an option on the 8th year it only gives them the first chance to sign that player nothing else. Detroit can still only sign Krug for 7 years not 8 years only Boston can do the 8 years.

Krug also called Boston his home and talked about how much he loves it here, and how he would take a "hometown discount" to stay. Look how that turned out.

It was already reported that Krug wanted 6 years $49 million to stay in Boston that comes to a $8.166m AAV to stay there i'd hardly call that a hometown discount.

Ha no chance Detroit does that. It really makes no difference whether they land Krug or not, they're still not gonna be contending in the near future. They'll be glad to have him if he wants to go there but they aren't paying for his rights, not anything remotely significant at least. Yzerman's not giving him an 8 year deal at his age so it's irrelevant

I think he’s referencing this but that is one guy’s perception of his market worth but 8M is a bit rich. Also never stated that’s the ask by Krug’s camp and Torey did come out and say he’d take a discount because that’s the custom in Boston with guys like Marchand, Pasta, etc.

It was probably a bad ACGM just created to rant and rave about how unfair everyone is to you.

It was already reported that Krug wanted 6 years $49 million to stay in Boston that comes to a $8.166m AAV to stay there i'd hardly call that a hometown discount.

Lol he chases me around in like 40% of his posts talking about how I’m the damn devil. I have him blocked but saw someone quote him and wanted to encourage him to follow through on being done.
