Buffalo was rumoured to be one of the teams setting a internal mid 70s cap...this is a great way of getting there getting a player that helps them down and saving some cash

We got a 20 goal, 50 point C for a 9 goal, 30 point LW and saved cap space. FLEECERY.

you also got a 36 year old player....Staal still can play but you hope the tires dont magically fall off at his age
either way steal....even if you flip Staal if the sabres arent a playoff team, you will get more for him than Mojo

Staal will regress because it's Buffalo. Bet they both end up with 40 pts next year; it may be a good deal for BUF now but in the end, it's fair.

I can't think of a single reason for Minnesota to make this trade.

He'll be a good pro that Cozens and Mittlestadt can learn a lot from if they start in BUF next season -- and will help the leadership group on the team as well. Really solid pick-up for BUF. Perfect term too.

Way to spoil the little enjoyment we get lmao. I think Staal will step back a little but he'll a better 2C than Mojo was without a doubt.

So it looks good and all - but Staal has been very vocal that he's not playing anywhere else. He's straight up said he'll retire before he moves his family and plays somewhere else. So chances are you don' thave staal - just gave away Johansson. that's why he wasn't moved 2 years ago at the trade deadline. He straight up told Fenton he'll retire if he's being traded. Then Fenton gave him his 2 year deal.

Lateral to open $4.5M artificially to improve on a player who wasn't a need positionally.

for sure. either you get a solid C for a year in Staal or you get cap space.

for the wild - it sets them up to trade Parise. I'm guessing Brock Nelson. he's a MN boy, 28, similar term and cap hit. the islanders can sign barzal that way, get parise and the wild get their center.

Lol they aren't trading Nelson unless Fiala heads back. Have you watched them in the postseason?

He's not a C, Johansson is barely a C mostly a W who can take faceoffs if the C get kicked.
