Even if Minny is getting another center, that doesn't make this deal less dumb. Staal has seriously good rental value. Getting back a busted up 3rd line winger for him who is more expensive and also on an expiring contract isn't the right move, no matter what secondary move is coming.

Awful trade for MN. Give up the better player and add cap. Also they just traded a center (the position they need most) for another LHS wing (the position they need the least).

MN might need to insensate Guerin is only allowed to trade with PIT rule.

Yeah, but this doesn't facilitate that because Johansson's cap hit is higher.

Yesterday was apparently the deadline for players to submit their NTC lists.

Staal only had 10 team NTC.

Maybe Staal ruled out other teams over Buffalo and hoped that a trade to Buffalo just wouldnt happen.

or maybe he realizes if they are his best chance to obtaining a cup cause if they fail again they will move him at the deadline to a competitor giving him his best chance for a cup.

I really want hear Guerin's explanation for this trade. There's got to be something we don't know like Staal asked for a trade etc, kind of thing. I refuse to believe Guerin just really wanted MOJO that bad.

They could have done that instead the corpse of Koivu on the ice last year. Rask would have been an upgrade there.

Lol I was just kidding. But it looks like he’ll probably get ice time. Unless a trade for a C is made a C core of Eriksson Ek-Bjugstad-Rask-Sturm might b the weakest in the league

LOL I mean if he wants to be bad he could have asked for Hutton or something. He didn't HAVE to take Mojo who is still a decent player albeit not as good as Staal.. tears of joy

I get that Guerin felt the need to shake things up and move out a player who always seemed to vanish when he was needed most, but man, he seriously couldn't have at least gotten a 2nd round pick or packaged him with something else for a 1st?

Minnesota just got fleeced.

They just gave Buffalo a cheap 2C for an overpaid player.

Don't forget Staal was over a ppg in the play ins.

MoJo hasn't been an effective player since his tenure in Washington. And even then, his numbers were inflated by playing on an elite offensive team. He's always hurt, too. Guerin did BUF a huge favor here. Big W for BUF, at least on paper.
